i am going to look at an ss "project" on wednesday and i need a little assistance. first, this car missing seats, steering column, exhaust, battery and probably alot more based on the price. anyway, i want to verify that the engine starts, or at the very least turns over and without a steering column i'm sure i need to hotwire. can anyone tell me what wires need to be connected? also i thought that there is a member on here from california,(as am i)and i was hoping he could give me some info on registering a vehicle with lein sale papers i want to make sure if i buy this car, that i will at some point be able to register it. and also what papers should i look for to know that the car isn't stolen(guy already told me no title, only lein paperwork in his name). sorry i should include, 1985 ss, console shift

no clue. but from what ive heard is that you can not change owners due to the lien. the lien owner legally owns the car. you may be able to register it but you will not be givin a pink till you pay the lien do you have any clue how much the lien is. you do know you will be stuck with the lien right. so add that to the price of the car

grab the vin number and take it to the dmv. explain your buying the car and want to know how much the lean is and they will inform you on how much it is. theres nothing worse then buying a project and having to pay a few thousand for it

This pretty much sums it up. Verify that the seller is also the owner as well. DMV CA is pretty crap when it comes to pointing that out. Don't become the new 'owner' of stolen property. Make sure to get a DATED print out. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, RELY ON WHAT A DMV EMPLOYEE SAYS. If they can't or won't supply you with a print out walk away from that DMV. Find another office and make sure to have DATED DOCUMENTATION of the vehicle in question.

RUN! Far far away from that deal and find a new one... It sounds like potential to get screwed over and a headache...

X2. Sounds like you may get screwed. Not worth the aggravation in my opinion. Just be careful if you decide to go for it.

yah, this sounds like a lot of risk and hassle for a car that wouldn't be worth it if it were free!

if it's this one: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/2830395678.html
it's just not worth it. buy one of the finished ones on craigslist. you'll spend less money and deal with less heartache in the end. good luck

that's a great idea, can't believe i never thought of that!!

unfortunately i don't have the money to buy a road-ready/complete ss right now. what i do have, however is ALOT of time and a little start-up money as well as a monthly budget to put into a project.
