Desaturation of the background is what Evan did to the photo. Last night he showed me the original and the the edited version. As he said. Most anyone can take a good photo but the editing of said photo makes one stand out.

The producer of Search For The Ultimate Street Car sent this footage to me from OUSCI in Las Vegas. Enjoy,

Awesome thanks for sharing that. I blurred the background of my signature to make it look like the car was coming out of the photo.

Very cool, Josh and Dan! Looks really good. Where did you get the hood louvers from? Are the other body parts (El Camino SS nose, rear roll pan, etc) from Honest Charley's, or from another supplier?

It has not. Still waiting on the T56. Going to install the old 4L60e so I can measure for a driveshaft. Also using the exhaust off the Monte to mock up one for the El Camino. Should be the same except for needing a little more length. This way when I head to Milwaukee for the trans we can dyno tune it at the same time.

The louvers started out as raw aluminum and were hydro coated with the carbon fiber treatment. All the body parts came from Honest Charley's. The nose has the 2" extention on the bottom and the body line on the nose was filled. It simulated the extention line. Fit was great. The grill has 1/4" of abs plastic added to the side and bottom and the shaped to fit the opening. The roll pan was ordered from honest Charley's but came from Lauren's. Fit was very poor. I split it in half and added 1/4" to the center and refiberglassed the end to match the quarters

After trying for quite some time to get a copy of the documentary a film student did, I made a bootleg copy. Click the link and check it out

El Camino is complete. Dyno # 513rwhp/495rwt. Look for it in an upcoming issue of Chevy High Performance.

Update time as the Monte Carlo has been busy this summer.

July 4th weekend in Des Moines I took the All American Sunday win at the Good guys event. Bested several 5th gen Camaros, a C7 Vette, and Josh in the El Camino who finished 3rd in his first autox in it.

Next was the USCA event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Another iconic track that I had to hit. The road course was a blast and my finishes in the speed stop and autox were very respectable. I'm still running the old Rivals. The new Rival S was worth 1.5 seconds and this would have gave me a 2nd place finish in class on the autox behind Kyle Tucker.

On Monday a group of NASCAR tribute cars got together and did a number of shop tours. Most shops emptied when we pulled in and at JR Motorsports, Kelly Earnhardt gave some photo ops.it was a great day.

The end of August was a trip to Willows Springs Raceway in California. This was from an invite by Super Chevy magazine and Falken tire. Took part in Super Chevy's suspension and chassis competition. 8 cars competed and the Monte did very well. Mary Pozzi was a test driver and writer. Robby Unser was there with Speedway Motors Nova. Very neat guy with stories to tell. Look for the article in an upcoming issue.

Dan,when you go to these events are you driving the Monte or does it get trailered ??
If you drive it I bet you get lots of attention whenever you stop for gas LOL
When you drive it on the street do you make any changes to the suspension settings ??
And how does it ride on the street ??
I would like to hear your overall impression as compared to when it was stock...

Most events I trailer because you never know what might happen at an event. Some of the longer trips I use an open trailer but mostly an enclosed. It does attract much attention. At the CarCraft Summer Nationals in Milwaukee this year we too both cars. My son drove the Monte out and the El Camino home. By the way the El Camino won in the Pro/am RSE. Josh played with the Monte all weekend. The Monday shop tour deal in Charlotte was crazy. Not sure I ever had my picture taken so much in one day.

I do drive the car a lot. It has over 15,000 miles since we finished it. With the Ridetech single adjustable coilovers I simply turn the the knob to a softer setting for street driving. As far as ride, it's pretty good for solid body mounts, 275/35/18 and 335/30/18 tires. The thing I hate most is the exhaust drone. Love the sound of it but after a few hours it starts to get old. VS stock, the rack and pinion steering is far superior, the ProCar seats are much more comfortable, 450rhp and a T56 a vast improvement, and the brakes are no comparison. AC and stereo work and one day I'll get the cruise hooked up. 23mpg at 70mph isn't to bad either.

The Super Chevy event did get a variety of expert opinions on the Monte and a few changes are in the works as far as dampening and spring rates. I've waited a long time for an opportunity to get others behind the wheel as I am no expert but the car was competitive. It should only get better.

Dan you sure have put a lot of miles on the Monte, good to know its not a "Trailer Queen" LOL
Sounds like it rides pretty good considering the solid body mounts and 18 inch tires.
I don't recall what you have for exhaust but an X pipe might help reduce the drone.
Mine has Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers with a Pypes X Pipe and it is a real pleasure on long drives, the wife has never once complained about the noise.
I also have a set of the Procar seats and they are far superior to the stock seats, very comfortable and good support.

I have an H pipe with the H being about 4". My problem is I have very limited room for mufflers so I used Moroso spiral flows. These are a bullet style. Used the same setup in the El Camino and it worse than the Monte. Thinking the bed is acting like a sound chamber. The El Camino has more room underneath so I plan to play with mufflers. May take your suggestion on dynomax but need 3" which isn't offered in some units. Both rides are also fully lined with dynomat.

Theres lots to choose from including 3 inch.
Looks like the shortest is 14 inches long.
