I think each show has improved over the previous. This was an awesome experience that I still have a hard time believing happend. The show last night was like reliving the event again. The #3 looked the part. When I came up with the plan for the wrap, I figured it would get some tv time. Never to the extent it received.

The USCA events are open to everyone that can pass the few safety requirements. You get plenty of seat time and driving instructors are available. You will meet the best group of car guys around and help is just the next bay over. Then again, maybe you shouldn't attend an event, because this will lead to wanting to do another and another which will get expensive. Every event is filmed for TV so you could be the next star.

Congratulations, Dan.

No question in my mind that the Spirit award was going to be yours.

Good luck.

Nice colour Dan. Is that a black cherry? Is all of the exterior trim going to have the carbon fiber appearance?

The color is the factory 1986 El Camino dark red metallic. Depending on the light, it looks red, purple, brown, and black. Also has a gold metallic.

All the window trim, door handles, tailgate release, rear license bucket, and radiator mount are done in the carbon treatment.

Here a couple in the sun. These were taken the day after paint when the buffing was done. Josh can lay paint! Pretty proud Dad I am.

How is the carbon fiber treatment done? Is it a paint type treatment, or is it a vinyl type cover?

Hydrographic. Acts like a water transfer then it's clear coated. Very durable.

With around 15,000 miles on the Monte, last week I drove out to Schwartz Performance for s general inspection, some updates and a visit. This is a 500 round trip. Fog on the trip out and some pretty heavy rain on the way back. I am very impressed with the BFG Rivals in the rain.

Always improving their product, new design steering arms were installed. This along with an alignment to brings the camber to 2.5* made a noticeable difference in the steering. Much quicker and more precise. A few other maintenance items were addressed.

Next up is adding more rear spoiler. So a call to Honest Charley's and on the way was a spoiler with an additional 2". As I've talked to people this past year there maybe something to this. I took the spoiler to Sharpline Autotrim, they did the wrap, to have it wrapped in a matching blue. I would like to add an adjustable wicker to it prior to SEMA but I don't think time will allow it

Here's a preview form Optima Batteries for the OUSCI.

That new spoiler is big compared to the stock one.
When on the car I don't find its a big difference. But seeing them side by side like that. Puts it in perspective.

OUSCI was great and the Monte Carlo performed flawlessly. Finished 50 out of 103. Very happy with the results

The Wrangler wrap was a big hit at SEMA. I can't say how many time I thought about removing it for the big dance but now have received numerous threats if I ever do.

On of the segments of OUSCI is the Lingenfelter Design and Engineering judging. This years judges were Troy Ladd, Steve Strope, Jeff Smith from CarCraft, and Dave Ross from the General Motors Design Center.

How many have seen the GMPP connect and cruise Monte Carlo SS? Dave Ross was part of this project. Now comes the BIGGEST compliment ever, he told me that my Monte was the canvas for that car. WOW. They went with flared fenders for tire clearance. I went with a chassis that allowed for minitubs and front tire room.

Jeff Smith brought up the two years the Monte ran RSE at the Summer Nationals to the other three. Finished third the first time and won the second. He has continued to follow the car and already knew of the T56 swap and ask how I like it and how hard the swap really was. All liked the SSM clutch pedal and master piece.

With the season over, snow on the ground it's time to finish up an El Camino. The Monte will receive a cage for my protection and maybe a few other little tidbits. Stay tuned.

Be sure to tune in Friday night to MavTv for Search for the Ultimate Street Car to see the Las Vegas show, just might see the Monte in action

Oh, the new rear spoiler from Honest Charlie's seemed to make a difference along with the Schwartz steering arms. The turn in is very impressive and the entires car just sticks. The overall feel was vastly improved.

Dan when I think you can't top it you just take it up another notch. The car just gets better and better and publicity gets thicker. You're running with the who's who of the automotive trend setting. Very cool and influencing for guys like myself to view.

Thanks for the exciting update.

Ron.

Dan - thanks for the MAV-TV heads up, got the DVR all set up. Your car is one of two I hope to see (the other one is the red Vorshlag Mustang).

A while back a college student from a nearby town approached me as I was fill up with gas about doing a documentary on the car and I for a class project. Sure, why not. He has done 3 different sessions filming, interviewing and photoing here. I have a little trailer but don't know to put it on here, but when I get the full version I will provide a link to it. Here is a photo he took yesterday.

My best guess is try uploading it to Youtube and posting the address of that video in your post. I don't know if MCSS.com will embed it and display the thumbnail or just a line of text to click on.

You can embed them here. The Junkyard Fast thread in the build blogs has embedded youtube videos.

I'd love to know what filter or effect is used to make that picture look like that. Or maybe it's just really good photography?

Use of a good camera and lens plus editing, AKA "good photography". The raw file does not look like that, but then again no ones' does.

Looks like he desaturated the background color, sharpened the car and added a good amount of midtone contrast to make it pop, etc etc. Great work and a great photo.

A filter or an effect is just a set of edits that are performed automatically on a photo versus using Lightroom, Aperture, Photoshop, etc.
