Heya fellow ss'ers. I have a problem with my 92' 4.3L S10. I am asking on these forums because I get better tech advice on this forum than on other forums I am a member of. We have a good knowledge base here.
That said, here is the problem. I set the timing on my S10 to 0 BTDC, the factory spec. Incase you are wondering, yes I disconnected the "set timing" connector before starting the engine to set the timing. Then reconnected it after shutting it off. I did not clear the EST code before test driving though. After doing nothing else, a bad detonation started at WOT in the upper rpm's. I put a tech 1 on it so I could monitor detonation and started retiming it. I set base timing to 4 BTDC and the detonation was even worse. Then I set to 2 ATDC, and the detonation was better but still audible. Then I set it to 4 ATDC and could no longer hear detonation. The tech 1 still said I had it though. Whats going on guys?
