Roughly around 425 HP.
There are a lot of variables there.

The non OD transmission and the 3:73 gears will have a lot of RPS at highway speeds.

How much work was done to the heads.
Valve size.
Intake runner volume.
Blending of the valve job.
Back cutting the valves.
Quench.
Port match.
Cam degree.

In any case were still probably not too far away from 425HP.
Maybe a little more if all above is good!

.. X 2... Should be around 425 - 450 HP... Was your rear end changed since '84 SS came with 3.42 rear end? Got Posi?

.. Variables would be: were the valves upgrade in size also? What's the quench distance? Compression ratio? 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 rocker arms? Got headers and freeflowing true dual exhaust system?

.. You can compare your 383 to the one in this article also with Vortec heads:

I would still guess 425HP.
The head intake runners are too small, so maybe less.

most of the things you have listed will basically optimize that setup... Should be around a real world 425HP (not west-tec dyno la la land numbers)

I'm gonna say ~400hp. I'd probably step back to a 600-650cfm carb, though.

Make sure you use some quality "break-in" oil with plenty of ZDDP.

get it completely bolted in, all accessories installed and tight, add oil and coolant(some prefer water at first, your call)prelube engine, install dist and get timing as close as possible, prime carb by pouring some gasoline down the vent tube, pump accel to get gas into engine, crank engine and when it fires get RPM to 2000 for at least 20 minutes all the time watching the oil pressure and coolant level in Rad. Set timing to desired degrees and after 20 minutes, take vehicle for about a 20 mile drive. Some recommend changing the oil after the breakin, I did not on my engine, your call if you decide to do that, Good luck.

x2 what Leo says, but would reccomend reving engine between 2k and 2.5k during breaking at sya for example 30 second intervals. This helps cam break in process.

Ok I ran into a problem during break in.
Motor started smoking then flames came out by the pass header
Spark plug bot caught fire changed it out it wasnt touching the header.
Caught fire again. What would cause the car to over heat like this

Did you have the timing set correctly? The exhaust will get very hot with the motor reved up during break in if the timing is retarded. Also make sure all vacuum ports are plugged or hooked up properly.

383's are a great monster mouse platform!

My Dads Camaro has a 383 in it and its a monster! It dynoed in @461Hp and 445Tq. They build bigblock power with smallblock RPMs.

Sounds like you have a stout build, and the Monte should really fly with the TH350 and 3:73's!

America, Love it or leave it
