helping a friend swap engines in his 86 SS when we took old engine out, the distributor connector had been melted and destroyed, the old dist was ruined when the old 305 broke its cam so we cut the wires, I would like to put the new stock one in right. so where could I find a plug??? or should I just do some splicing?

You mean the 4 prong one? I looked everywhere and couldn't find the pigtail. I wound up buying a spare distributor just for the connector.

the 86 had the big cap HEI, right?
if so, you can get all the different wiring connectors at pretty much any parts store.. the harness from the module under the rotor up to the cap is available brand new, as is the power and tach wire pigtails.
otherwise, junkyards are full of donor cars and trucks- pretty much every GM car and truck with an HEI distributor that was built in the 80's will work.

86 MC SS- rough, but fixable. looks like something Dale Sr might have driven back to the transport after a race at Bristol.

Do you have a picture of what you need? All connectors that plug into the distributor are female like this:
