Would a pinion and ring gear from any other type of car (ie: Cutlass Supreme) be compatable in a 1987 Monte SS? We need to replace the rear end "pumpkin" in our SS because the pinion gear was broken when we bought it, and we are having trouble finding one from the parts yard on a Monte. We are able to get one for a Cutlass though, but don't want to buy one that's not going to work...

We need both the ring gear and the pinion gear, 3.73 ratio, positraction. If you have one we are definately interested!

Never been a fan of running used gears... just one of the things that should be replaced new.

If they're OEM GM gears, nothing wrong with used. I don't run used Aftermarket tho'.

decent new aftermarket gears will be under $200 and an install/rebuild kit with all new bearings, seals, and shims for the whole rear axle will be about that much. a new posi will be the most expensive part, but you can find a good used one from another G body or 82 and newer F body for not too much.

86 MC SS- rough, but fixable. looks like something Dale Sr might have driven back to the transport after a race at Bristol.

.. If you actually have a removable 'pumpkin', maybe you have a Ford 9" rear end...

.. Otherwise, you're building inside a stock rear end...

.. Although rear gears and carriers from other G-bodies and some f-bodies will work if you have the stock 7 1/2" rear, the problem is 99% of them won't have 3.73 gears or posi...

.. Check Randy's Ring and Pinion for prices...
