I went to a couple of junkyards and couldnt find a donor dual snorkel assembly that i can mess with. I didnt even find a good single snorkel i can cut into to make a dual so i decided I'm going to go with the open air system which i think looks better any ways. Whats the biggest air cleaner i can get under their for maximum air intake? 14x2 is stock i believe or is 10x2" ? I'm more concerned height wise that way i can figure out the biggest surface area.

.. I'm using a drop base open element 14" x 4" (14x3 with 4" element (STP #SA3492) and homemade longer stud)... wing nut rubs the hood insulation a little... maybe I should have used a bolt... stock LG4 aircleaner uses 12" x 3 1/2" element... don't know about SS aircleaner...

will a drop base fit on a stock 305 with the 350 miles of emission hoses? My next step after ther air cleaner is to get rid of all that crap. I dont need to pass emissions up here so i was going to just pop off the smog pump and its hoses but i am keeping the computer for some decent MPG's

you don't need the computer for mileage.. get a quadrajet and HEI distributor from a late 70's pickup, rebuild them, and put them in.
with a little tweaking and tuning, your mileage will be as good as or better than the stocker and you can ditch every vacuum line except for the vacuum line from the carb to the vacuum can on the distributor, the vacuum hose for the heater, and the pcv valve because it's just a good idea to run one. this also allows yo uto remove the entire harness for the computer and really open things up under the hood..

grab the air cleaner housing from the same truck you get the carb and distributor from and you can use it to make a dual snorkel setup for even better mileage.

86 MC SS- rough, but fixable. looks like something Dale Sr might have driven back to the transport after a race at Bristol.
