Hey everyone! So here's the down low on my monte. I just recently purchased an '87 ss aerocoupe t-tops, original with less then 86k miles. I think its a great find though it ran a little rough to start out as I found out it had the original plugs, wires, cap and rotar. So I proceeded to replace all spark plugs and only broke 5 out of the 8 off in the block. haha. Neways, I was able to remove all of them with a tap and now am working on the plug wires. Along with that I am replacing the cap and rotar. So here are my questions....

1. I have all the plug wires replaced accept for the passenger side, back 3 wires. They seem to be attatched to the exhaust manifold via heat shield. I've tried and tried to just pop the wires out of the clip but me and my clumbsy fingers cant seem to get it done. Is there an easier way to go about this?

2. Like I said previously I am also replacing the cap and rotar and have found that the rotar is rusted onto the coil. I'm not the master mechanic so I don't dare want to break anything that will get me into deeper trouble. I was wondering what was a good way to go about getting the rotar off or should I spend the $150+ and hit up my mechanic?

Thanks for the help!

the rotor cannot be rusted onto the coil, the coil is a stand alone one on that car. Carefully, with a large flat blade screwdriver, pry upwards on the rotor is a couple of places around the base of the rotor and remove. IF it is really stuck bad, get a mechanic on it asap.

How did you remove the spark plugs with a tap??

Taps are used to create or clean threads. If you really did tap something, I'd bet you have all kinds of metal shavings in your cylinders...

Just me , but I'd buy a new distributor before I paid a mechanic $150 to change stock cap and rotor.

pull on those plug wires til u break them and just change them out with new ones, same for the rotor pull up til it comes undone. if ur replacing with new ones who cares if u break them off as long as thats the only thing u break. for the spark plugs worst case scenario is u end up breaking them at the porcelain (white part) and just leave the metal nut screwed in the heads. alot easier to remove if u put some spray some pb blasster inside each hole and let it soak and then take a breaker bar with a cheater pipe and give it a good pull

sorry, not a tap but a reverser I think its called? my fault. I did get all the plugs out safe and sound by sticking the reverser (sorry if my lingo is off) into the broken plug and turned them counter clockwise to unscrew it. Thanks for the correction. my bad

Those are called "Easy-Outs", or at least that's one brand name for them. They are usually anything but easy.

GM makes a PB blaster-like spray that is supposed to work much better, according to my GM mechanic buddy.

the GM stuff is called "Heat Valve Penetrant" and is the exact same stuff as the foamy PB Blaster- except it costs twice as much as the PB Blaster. it's simply the best stuff out there for breaking loose rusty fasteners.
