Even the SCS had to steer clear of on track activities. IMHO, members who do come, will enjoy the track tour, as well as seeing just how the paving process goes on a high bank track. As Ken and myself have mentioned down in the SMCC section, this will also give folks more time to see/visit one another. One thing we ALWAYS run short on is time together. However things turn out, we will keep a positive attitude and things will still be great.

Cindy and I realize that this is out of our control. With that said, It is bothering me on a daily basis. Here are some of the main reasons: Other than the obvious; we won't be able to enjoy the laps, it will just continue to delay members from registering for the Convention/Monte Carlo Nationals. I know that the deadline is May 1st (for Participation Plaque) and June 1st (for Event and BMS), but when registrations all come in at the last minute, it makes it darn difficult to plan the event.

How many t-shirts should be ordered? How many "extra" awards should be ordered? How many dash plaques should be ordered? The list is much longer, but I think you get the idea. I can't wait until the last minute to hit my suppliers with the orders. Based on some of the registrations thus far, I'm certain there will be some cancellations if BMS cancels our laps.

If the laps are cancelled we can still take the tour and do something in the parking lot perhaps?

Bruton Smith just announced that they are going to be "grinding" the top groove off of the high banks in turns 1, 2, 3, and 4. Thus, they are not ripping up the track.

To summarize the news conference:

Q: How much will it cost?
A: We don't know.... but it will be a lot.

Q: What is the time frame?
A: We don't know

Q: What will be the new degree of banking?
A: We don't know

Q: Will the track need conditioning or smoothing after the grinding?
A: We don't know

Wow, all of this new information helps me get a good night's sleep!

The May 1st deadline to register and receive a "Participation Plaque" has now past.

The next deadline is as follows:
All Registrations & Bristol Reservations MUST Be Postmarked on or before June 1, 2012
Anyone missing this deadline MUST register (for the event only.... not Bristol) at the event!

Do we have to go to the hotel and register before we go to Bristol for the laps?

I'm not certain I understand your question. Thus, here are two answers:

1) You do not need to "check-in" with your hotel reservation prior to coming to the track.

2) We are not having a registration period on Friday until 1:30pm. That is why everyone that wants to participate at Bristol MUST pre-register for the event and reservations made for Bristol by the June 1st postmark deadline. I will have the list of pre-registered members with me on Friday morning at the track.

3 Days remaining!

Pre-Registrations and Bristol Reservations MUST be postmarked by June 1st..... no exceptions......

You will be able to register for the Convention/Monte Carlo Nationals at the event. However, after June 1st postmark, you will not be able to participate at Bristol.

The Bristol Reservations are now closed. All Convention/Monte Carlo National Registrations will now need to be completed at the event. The first Registration period will be on Friday, June 29th, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sorry if I missed it...so, are the laps at Bristol still up in the air or was it confirmed a go?

There are still 24 days till track time..... The "But" is that anything can still happen in 24 days! Who knows... Bruton Smith might decide he doesn't like the color of the concrete. He might decide to stain it Red, White, and Blue. Maybe the stain won't be dry in time for our visit!

This BMS visit has been a roller coaster ride since the idea/plans began. I'll just be happy when I see the all of the Montes making laps.

By the way, the Pace Car better fill up the tank.... based on the paid reservations, it will be making a lot of laps!
