Im running UMI upper and lower control arms and I want to know if and how to index the coil springs correctly. The springs are a 3" drop spring.

It seems like every corner of the car sits differently. Should the backs be indexed as well? They are just stock. But like I said ive got a different ride height at each wheel.

I would think the two fronts should be the same and the two backs should be the same.

What does index the coil springs mean? Do you do this for a stock restoration?

Putting them a certain way, and having them both the same way.

Have you check that they are all installed correct side up?..Sounds silly but it happened to me, my car sat all funky untile I figured it out...And also are they new springs? They usually need a day or 2 of driving to help them settle.

The tops are usually marked with a white stripe, You also need to make sure the end of the bottom coil sits in the notch of the lower control arm correctly.

fort wayne in.
when I put mine back together the lower control arm had a notch to put the end of the spring in and the upper end of spring was flatter so it would sit in the frame pocket evenly . If put in up side down it would not sit correctly . also make sure the upper spring pad is still in place .

^What he said. The top is a box end, the bottom is tangential. The bottoms fit into a notch in the stock lower control arm. If your aftermarket arms don't have a spot for the notch, I guess I'd just put the notch towards the outside of the car.

The rears shouldn't matter, but the front being off can cause the rear to be off.

I thought that the manual said to have the spring end near one of the holes for drainage. In other words, don't cover both holes. i thought that the rears, by factory design, should have the bottom end pointing outwards too.

End of coil goes between the 2 holes. Cover one, leave one exposed . Thatís what it said in the instruction that came with my springs . No indexing on the rears from what I remember .

So if you compress the spring to remove,do they "pop" out of these notches or do you have to try turn them?

They just sit in the notches, they don't get inserted. It's really just a "spring shaped relief" more or less.
