Ha ha... nothing quite that exotic I'm afraid. It's actually out of an 86 Pontiac Grand Prix I found through the G-Body Forum site. I found a guy parting out 12 or so.

He's primarily a Buick guy and didn't have any SS parts. Since I'm customizing my SS, a little "cross pollination" seemed like a good solution for a custom dash with a bolt-in approach.

Finally plugged the showbox into into the new harness plug and bolted it into place.

It was definitely worth the money to me.

You had to cut the stock plug off though???

Make sure you get the connectors from the GP harness as well if you want to use the GP dash's turn signals, choke light, etc.

The GP dash uses different connectors than the Monte, but it's pretty easy to repin using the Monte harness to get everything working.

I did this earlier this year, so let me know if you have any more questions and I can try to help with more details on wiring diagrams as it looks like you have an '87 Monte as well.

SS Ninja:

Yes, any insight would be very helpful. You mentioned the GP harness, if you mean the part attached to the dash, yes the guy who pulled it was very thorough (hence my high rating of him as a seller) and sent me this:

I was wondering about the re-pinning method as I do want to keep the stock signal light, high beam etc. indicator lamps. Then I plan on installing some old school Stewart Warner gauges for a no-nonsense performance look.

If I can pull off what I've designed in my head in the real world, I think it'll be a great custom touch to my Monte. I'm doing the body work now, if I get her into the paint booth by spring, I should be ready to install this in the fall. I hope.

i love that dash. i like to stay close to stock. if i wanted to change my dash in my 85 this would be the route i would take.

I just went with Dakota Digital and it matches the blue in the Pioneer stereo.

I'm awaiting this set up

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/p...prod/prd788.htm

Only difference is I got it in carbon fiber and blue. I was debating about Auto meter and a couple others. By the time I priced everything, it came out to be just a little less than what I paid for the Dakota's.

I really wanted to keep it as factory looking as I could. Yeah I know those gauges are expensive but what isn't anymore.

Everyone's looks good.

Yes, imo, the GP dashes are the best all around dash upgrade. And they were and are far more resistant to cracking than the Monte dashes. I am going the GP dash route in my 80 Monte project-I have several of these dashes left and they make for a lotbof options for aftermarket gauges. I am leaning towards the Nexus Autometer gauges-they blackout when turned off-cool as heck!
