And a Tank? Ive read that from being on here...

I know, this goes agenst a vortec 350...

Will it give me a noticable gain over a carb on a 350? would I need bigger injectors? Perfomance chip... maybe gruvin could help here?

Thanks

Don,t forget the MAF unit. pricey little contraption. $175 sounds pretty good though.

You will need a Vortec base to match up with the cylinder heads. For all that, maybe a tad high if none of the sensors are included.

get it,

you can drill out the 2 middle holes on the intake to fit the "G" heads. MAF will run about $140, other sensors are around $20 - $40 each. I would imagine that it would come with some if it comes with the harness and computer. Fuel Lines will run you about $30 and the time to bend them.(one afternoon) I know a guy on the GN board that can get tanks for $100. Pump you can get on ebay, my WALBRO cost $15. You notice a good gain over your carb setup, I have no clue about the Vortec 350, but adding TPI to your Monte is one of the best things you can do, and if you go to a 350 at some point all you have to do is switch to bigger injectors.

Good Luck
Chris

Thanks, this helps alot.

It will have a 350, non-vortec.

With the bigger injectors, how big should I go and what type of chip/prom whould I need to find or get made up?

Thanks again

If you do the conversion, I know someone in the Central Jersey area that does custom chips for TPI cars. He's very good, and reasonably priced. When you're ready, just send me a PM and I'll get you his contact info.

Sounds like an ok price, but if you are getting it to do a conversion I would highly recommend getting a complete car. There will be lots of little parts you will have to get for a conversion that are not sold with 99% of TPI setups on ebay or other classifieds, etc. Save money in the end plus time, IMO.

Aint that the truth, I bought the intake and harness seperate. I just finally got the correct coil mounting bracket for my car a couple weeks ago, that reminds me, I should get it put on sometime.

I think the injectors for the 350 are a 22lbs injectors. You can get them from any performance mag. When I did my swap I got the whole TPI setup from the guy, upper & lower intakes, runners, computer, complete under hood harness, injectors and all sensors but the o2. You need to check and see if this system has VATS or not. I think an 88' would have it. Just ask the person if the key for the car has a VATS chip. There is a ton of info to do the swap here on the board. If you are half way handy in the garage you should have no problems. Ask any questions you need to know, we are her to help.

Chris,

Thanks!! I hope it is OK if I could PM you with any help I would need. One more thing for now, You said I would need a tank, is that nessacary, or can I "made do" with mine?

Also, is what I listed all I need as in parts, less sensors and gadgets like that?

Thanks again
-Chris

If your gas tank isn't a fuely tank it will still work as long as it is half full or better. I did the swap and don't have the proper tank. Proper tanks have a splash pan in them so the pump doesn't starve it self. Good luck with ur swap

you can make due, but if you take a corner fast with a near empty tank you will run the risk of sucking air and messing up your fuel system. If you dont run a EFI tank make sure you keep the tank above 1/2 tank all the time. It is recommended that you use an EFI tank from a TBI monte, or a Grand National. Stay away from the reproduction parts, they say the baffles in the reproductions aren't as good as the OEM.

Chris

Check the Turbo Buick forums for a tank, that is where I found mine.
