well i ahve a little money like 300 bucks, and i was looking for a good engine mod to increase power, basically the best bang for my buck. Can u guys help me out on what the best mod would be for an increase in my hp but not hurt my pocket, and also be able to switch over to my 350 when i decide to build one. thank you

Headers wouldn't be abad idea, as long as you install yourself, a good intake or carb may help out as far as power and can easily be switched over, maybe an air intake kit like this?:

the only problem with that dual snorkle set up from spectre, is that its a 160 bucks at the local autostore when i could make it for less then 50. And i was lookignat headers and since i have to retain emission i can only use TES which run like 500 and some odd change. i was looking more towards a manifold.

I've been in your shoes.

Headers period!

Edelbrock TES if you have to stay with emissions and a dual snorkel.

Intake did really nothing for my stock 305. The stock intake isn't to bad.

intake, or exhaust as it can be used on either a 305 or a 350, replacing the manifolds and cat with a set of headers and high flow cat will be the best upgrade. In my head, it makes sense to continue to save for the more expensive add-ons... if the intake is not the restriction, it will do little to increase the power output of the engine. Find & remove the bottle neck in the system and go from there.

Look for headers on Craigslist. I see them for SBC all the time...even coated ones. If emissions is an issue for you, you will be restricted on what you can get, but with some patience, you will probably find them.

Do some searching in other areas around you that you can drive to under "Chevrolet" or "Chevy" or "SBC" or "headers", etc. It will pull up only relevant listings for the past month or so. They have probably already been listed and are still available. If you find some that you think will work, post what type they are here and get confirmation that they will fit well for you.

Should you find some, add new Stage 8 locking header bolts to your list with the money you save on buying them for less.

If i get a set of TES for my monte will i be able to swap them out onto my 350 when i get it. the 350 block is from a late 60's or 70's ethier chevelle or other car of similar body style. The engine was built by my dad back in his racing days and was never used thats why it is sucha old block, figured i would save money by using it.

I bought a used set of TES headers from a member here for $180. You should post in the parts wanted section here for used TES headers.

SBC powered 1987 Regal with TES headers, ZZ4 intake, ZZ4 PROM chip, mini starter, THM2004R, 2500 stall converter, 2040 cam, CCC system, and 3.73 posi rear.

I was just going to say to watch the for sale section. I see them pop up from time to time. My vote is for a good tune up with some quality parts and a good filter. IMO a K&N is worth the money.
