Is this possible to do with rear wheel drive 84 monte?

I have a chance to pick up a low milage 3.8 out of a 99 bonneville for $600 with original Eaton S.Charger. The motor has 240hp/280tq

I did a search on the net and found really nothing concrete. Figured someone here would know.

Thanks

I dont think it will work being as how the engine sits in the buick, probably be hard to get it to bolt up to a 2004r or any other tranny in your car, but im not 100% either

It could be done but it's more fitting to an older FWD car. The monte can make easy use of an LS1,2,3,6,or 7. I have swapped a 99 Bonneville SSEi 'train into my 88 Lesabre T-Type, it's bolt-in. It's much more at home in a car like this, where you're sort of stuck with FWD.

It would be used with a trans from either a v6 camaro/firebird or s-10 p/u.

You'd use manifolds(or headers) from an F-body as well.

There was a guy who swapped a 3.8 supercharged motor into a 80's cutlass. He detailed his build on a website, you should be able to google it.

You can mate a 4l60e from a v6 camaro to the FWD 3.8. The air intake will face directly into the firewall - this will likely require som modification. And I'm not sure how easy it is to get the computer and harness to function in stand alone mode.

This would an interesting project, I've thought about it many times myself.

That 3.8 S/C looks right at home in the LeSabre. Very fitting that it is a T-type with a forced induction motor.

How much work was involved with the swap?

But I think it will cost you alot more money to install that FWD V6 into your MC vs a RWD LSX swap.

It can be done. I've seen guys take LS1's and put them in Late model Grand Prix's and still retain stock tranny and Front Wheel Drive, so putting the Grand Prix or Bonneville engine into the monte should be a big deal, just take your time, and do lots of research.

Can the supercharged 3.8 be de-tuned to run on regular gas?
I know a guy that is putting one in a T-Bucket.

Always thought it would be wicked in something like a Vega, 64 Chevy II, or even a Pinto SS.

Saw a 3.8 on a rail buggy. They grafted the engine cradle onto the rear of the rail buggy chassis.

You can get the engine, and run it with your trans or a newer trans, and you can get the 5.3 (I believe rated at 300hp or something close to that0 Ok sorry found it on wikipedia, 285-295 hp and 325 tq. They are the Gen III engines out of the 99 and up pickup trucks. They can be found, engine alone, for less than 1k, or with trans for somewhere around 1400, or less if you check around the internet. If you really want to know a list of parts and the costs, let me know, and I'll sit down and write them up to show the total price.

I remember the days that cars were lowered and trucks were lifted

You can run a Series 2 motor on 87 w/o any problems, the timing retard system is sophisticated enough to handle it, as long as it doesn't have a smaller blower pulley.

There is a guy who detailed this swap on gbodyforum. In fact he fabbed some parts and will do this swap for others. I remember he was from Indiana and that he turned up the wick. The thing was very fast as in low 11s and got mid to high 20s for mileage. Come to think of it by trade he does transmissions and has a website and there was a seperate page on his website about this. Sorry can't remember more than that.
