This past Friday night I decided to take my 86 SS to the track. I had never been before so I had no idea what to expect. All I can say is "What a rush!" What a trip to be able to run all out without worrying about getting caught. Unfortunately, I couldn't get out of the hole worth a darn. I am running BF Goodrich Radial T/A's and they will spin like crazy well into second gear. Once the car gets traction though, it pulls like there is no tomorrow! My setup includes:

GM Performance ZZ383 with Edelbrock Air Gap intake, Holley Street Avenger 770, MSD 6AL controller and ProBillet distributor. I am running a beefed up Turbo 400 transmission that is set to shift at around 5800rpm on WOT.

The only thing I haven't changed yet is the stock posi rear so I am afraid to run drag radials as I don't have the funds right now to buy another. I am however thinking that in the near future I will be looking to upgrade to a 8.5 rear so that I can put a little more sticky tire on. My best time with all of the spinning was:

Reaction: 0.3179
60 ft: 2.1550
1/8 ET: 8.8582
1/8 mph: 83.46
1/4 ET: 13.5119
1/4 MPH: 110.57

I had other runs with better reaction times or better 60 ft times but this was the fastest 1/4 mile time.

It was definitely fun. I am already making plans for the spring and what I might want to do over the winter to get ready. Another expensive hobby. Go figure.

Very nice. Maybe we'll bump into each other there next year.

You have got a lot more in it to. Get that 60ft down. The 110mph in the 1/4 tells it all. Easy 12s.

Nice, I also run a built 700-r4 with 4:56 gears on the street and the track, put some more gear in your ride and have some real fun

Pulling almost 4k rpm at 70 mph on the highway with my turbo 400, I am not sure that more gear is right for me right now. If I ever resort back to an OD transmisison though, I will have to keep it in mind.
