Looks like I may need new shocks for the Monte. I think I have KYB gas shocks on there now.

What's the best shock to use for a street driver with stock suspension?

Any one have those Edelbrock Performer IAS? I guess the Bilsteins are very good too. Konis? Any other choices?

Thanks!

I've got KYB's on the front & Koni's out back,it works nice like this, but if I were replacing the fronts,I would go with Koni.

Bilsteins all the way for a stock-suspension daily driver. You'll be amazed at the difference! I've got 'em on the Monte and my daily driver Cherokee. Best part, they're only $60/each from Autozone.

Bilsteins for a nice shock ,but the edelbrocks are a damn nice shock also ,I was very impressed with em on my 94 9C1 when I lowered it ,Plus the eddies are lifetime warrentied against everything except bending the shaft.so when they go bad you just get another set.

"Hi, Jim, it's Jamie at the police impound.
They picked up your car again. Lately, they've been driving it more than
you have."

1986 monte ss (LT1 swap in progress) front suspention done.

Originally I thought the Bilsteins and the Edelbrocks were about $110 a piece. So the Bilsteins are $60 and I see that Summit sells the Eddies for $77. Summit sells the Konis for $240/pair.

I guess I'm leaning towards the Bilstiens just on the price factor alone.

Also considering the Eibach Pro Springs. Recommended by SC&C. They cost about $250 for the 4 spring set.

They're not a bad idea either if you need to replace your springs and want to lower your car. I have the Eibachs and Bilsteins in my '88 SS and it rides very well, even with the stiff-sidewall 245/45 17s. My "car friends" that have been in it have all commented on how good the ride quality is, and even my wife doesn't find it objectionable. It doesn't bottom out on potholes (important for us Jersey residents!) and handles great too.

I have Monroe Sensatracs on my SS, they are the only thing we install at the shop I work at. They ride great and are a good all around shock IMO. Plus they only run about $30 each!

KYB still gives a great ride and is stiff when needed. Same thing dont cut the cord on them until there in place and ready. Very hard to compress. Move up also to a Gta or Iroc front sway bar there hollow save weight and are 31mm and you can get them for under $100. at swap meets and junk yards. Energy suspensions sells bushings that fit them. Between the shocks and sway bar it will feel better than a new car. You can see one of my cars on car domain to see how mine is built for handling. Yes I also have an 1986 SS monte Carlo and a 1998 I know its front wheel drive but that will be fixed some day.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2973776/1
