removeing computer from car, I understand that I have to change cc carb. & cc dist. what brand of dist, carb, intake, this mcss is a grocery getter , it will not be raced or driven hard, it will be babyed.but when I have to pass a car in front of me , I want to get it done, all suggestions would be appreciated. I am restoring this mcss 86, I have approx. $9000.00 so far , so I don't want to blow a lot more money,on carb.,dist. intake

If you are just gunna do that with it then why not just beef up the carb and ignition, would be cheaper than a new carb, distributor and lockup kit. If anything there should be some place near you that can build up your carb to make your car scream and go with a MSD box.
That would be good enough for what you are gunna do.

The best IMO for a Daily Driver/Grocery Getter is the Edelbrock Performer Plus Intake/Cam Combo... Excellent results on a otherwise stockish motor... HTH

I left the computer, carb, dist, put cam/intake/headers and pulled 207 rwhp. Had great passing power. And I have an extra qjet if you wanna rebuild one.

before I put in my TPI, I was using an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, with a standard vaccumm advance dist($40 at parts store), and just put on the carb plate adapter for the square bore tp spread bore. The SS already has a decent intake, no need to change it if you are just driving around, but like randy said you will need a Lock Up kit for your Trans.

The easiest bolt-ins would be NON-computer controlled versions of the QJet carb and HEI distributor. Literally bolt-ons in every way. If you want to change intakes the Edlebrock Performer or Performer EPS are likewise bolt-ons and might be worth a few HP (plus removing some weight!) over stock.

I do my own QJets so for me they're cheap. Otherwise, a performance-tuned QJet would run you about as much as any other brand/type of carb. All your stock cables, fuel line, etc. will hook right up. A performance-oriented HEI distributor can be had these days for under $150 complete. Your stock wiring will even hook right up to it with no changes.
