you would think that original parts group would actually make quality seals with the plastic to hold the clips . well i guess not

I used the sof-seal ones on my monte, and had to re-use the original plastic clips from my car as the aftermarket ones were kinda small and didn't want to stay in the doors..

I used the Soffseal on my car, and have the same problem. A buddy of mine bought Supersoft weatherstripping for his '87, and looks much nicer. I might try those eventually.

My choice:

GM OEM - A little pricy but the best.

Steele Rubber - good quality reasonable price.

The rest of them is hit and miss, mostly miss.

My dad ordered door w/s for his 87 Cutlass (same as Monte) from Steele since I recommended them as I have never heard anything bad about their w/s. He was informed over the phone that they are not the direct manufacturer of that particular w/s and when it arrived it was in Steele packaging, but "Metro Supersoft" was molded into the w/s itself. His were great, but I had previously ordered Metro and couldn't even close my doors so I had to send them back. I agree that its hit or miss, but it seems Metro is a little better than Soffseal for longevity and softness.

I got Soffseal for the Monte and Malibu, both fit great for me. Had no problems with either set. I got them off ebay from S&S Classics. I highly recommend them, cheapest prices I found anywhere and great to deal with plus free shipping! http://stores.ebay.com/S-S-CLASSIC

I have seen the aftermarker seal and they look and work very well. (As well as they can, I have never seen a monte that didn't have some problems with seals)
