I have a harwood glass hood and the underside needs to be cleaned. I had a small oil leak and it sprayed the underside of the hood. I have tried using simple green and it didn't clean it up as well as it should have. Any suggestions would be appreciated, the underside is painted satin black--not a high gloss, if that makes a difference.

I've never seen Harwood glass. But I've found that almost any kind of car wax and the finest steel wood will clean up the harshest of chemicals. Just use the steel wool like a wax pad and make sure you a lot of wax on the steel wool as to not scratch the surface.. Try a small spot and see the results. If it works, I'm happy for you, if it doesn't, I'll ask my homy and let you know by friday or saturday.

If the underside isn't finished (just rough fiberglass) I'm not sure how to clean it. Might be soaked into the fiberglass by now.

Soak it with a good degreaser and then use a pressure washer. Or would damage the fiberglass?

I usually use Simple Green as a degreaser on the engine, but that didn't cut it. Maybe I should try to use GUNK or Gumouts SteamClean on the hood. I'll try a small spot to see if it works.

Im thinking, at the shop when I spill some oil, I use old rags and let them sit for at least 12 hrs. When I lift the rags, everything is pulled from the floor.
So... maybe as an extra absorbant, place some Baby Powder on a rag and tape it overnight on the oil spot???? <--dunno what yall think?
I use BP often on our Suburban 24 hrs before vacuuming, it's damp sometimes... seems to work well

Just go to the car wash and spray it off with the cleaner.Cover the carb if you have an open air cleaner. It cleans the oil off because the wash cycle uses hot water.

Dish soap and a wash rag will really clean it up.
