Discovered the gaskets for the TES headers are leaking on both heads. Seems like the steel core composite gaskets just disintegrated from age. Since replacement TES gaskets are discontinued I need to find a substitute. What is the size of the exhaust ports on stock 416 / 601 heads?

You really want to size the gasket to the header port. They look like they're oval shaped? I'd measure the header opening and order the closest matching RemFlex gaskets if it were me. They offer a number of different sizes and shapes.

When i ran the TES on the 305 a couple decades ago the Fel Pro MS9275B I had good service from . The Edel gaskets that came with the TES I felt were inferior. Also the TES header flanges is not what you call heavy duty, is it 1/4" thick? Rock sells the Fel Pro for like 6 bucks,
The local parts houses would sell them cheaply also. I think that is what you said you had on the headers now?
My Astro 4.3 uses the same type gaskets, I run the fel pro on it for 15 years. #5 lost a good seal once, Just loosened the bolts on the stock cast header, dropped a new set on to that side and tightened the bolts. Good to this day.

On the new engine it's AFR alum heads and Hooker 2050s, Fel Pro 1404. those gaskets are now near 14 year on and never changed. It's about the flange to head contact and equal pressure evenly across the sealing /contact area. To many headers have narrow, thin contact area and require them to perfectly fit port size to seal. Or head port shape to header port shape is so mismatched nothing fit well.

If the AFR head would be removed and new header gaskets need to go on I would buy a set of the Remflex just to see how good they really are.

The current failed gaskets are Eddy's special replacement gaskets for TES headers. I don't see them for sale anymore, I bought them back when TES headers were still in production so they are pretty old now.

Found over on Thirdgen forums that many of them use gaskets such as the Fel Pro 1404 which have 1.5 by 1.5 port openings for TES replacement gaskets. Not sure if that is the best size but it seems to work for them.

Took some measurements of the ports on the old stock exhaust manifolds and the ports are around 1.3ish inches. The openings are fairly square but the height and width vary from spot to spot.

Remflex does have specific port options and is 1/8" think (twice size of others) and is designed to compress to 1/16". Seemed to match up my AFRs well.
Like to hear what you decide.

I would like to go with Remflex if they have a near proper size. Going to have to pull one of the old TES gaskets out first and measure it before ordering a replacement of some kind.

Pulled the driver's side gasket it and measured the port size on it. Its roughly 1.522 inches high and 1.297 inches wide. The TES gaskets are in terrible shape, the wire mesh core rusted out allowing the gasket to flake apart in several places.

Think I will try the Remflex PN 2006 gaskets as they seem to be the closet to the original TES header gasket dimensions. Remflex states that the PN2006 is the gasket for stock application heads and exhaust manifolds which should be close match for TES headers as they are not very radical headers by design.

Finally received the Remflex 2006 gaskets today. Compared themmto what was left of the old TES gaskets and thevport openings are identical so these should fit well. Jusg have to install them next and see how things work out.
