Mark, I replace the motor/cap from another car and added the intermittent stalk and it worked fine. Didn't know you could just move the "electronic cap" over to the original motor? Let us know how that works out please. Gordon

thanks...im almost certain you can just put the cap on.how hard was it to put the new lever in? did the column have to come apart as much as fixing it when its loose?

I only recall it was easy... Nothing like column rebuild

the thing that the stalk clicks into is different.instead of having just 2 positions it has many little clicks for speeds.this is what i need ao swap out for the 2 speed one.

While the motors themselves (84-88) are the same, you can't just pop the pulse (CD4 RPO) cover on a non-pulse motor and magically have a pulse wiper motor. The wiper motor MUST have 2 contactors that plug into the park switch. GM p/n 22054236. They're basically flat bent metal with contactor "buttons" stamped into them that match up to the pulse cover contacts.
Also, the switch inside the column determines the pulse action, not the stalk itself. The stalk has NOTHING to do with pulse or non-pulse operation. They're interchangeable actually. Just the printing on the barrel is different.
So to have that pulse action for a non-pulse car, you would need to have a CD4 cover, the contacts, and the column pivot/switch part.
EDIT: I need to add that I did not research any electrical wiring differences with pulse or non-pulse, so it may or may not make any difference depending on that. But regardless, you'll still need the above mentioned items to successfully add pulse wipers to your non-pulse situation.

sweet....i found my spare intermittent cap and it has the 2 electrical connectors laying loose in it to make the connection with the non intermittent box. now the hard part. to put the pulse switch in the column. the rest is easy.

the pulse and non pulse ones are different and if you look closely, wired different. Good luck!

Mark, send me a PM with a picture of your switch. It should have extra positions for the intermittent selections! Check that out!

The correct GM part for pulse (intermittent) wiper switch for an 86 Monte Carlo with tilt wheel is 7843683, or aftermarket equivalent. Has 5 terminals IIRC.
That 26020404 swich is from an S-10 or van or something. Will it work? I dunno. It only has 3 terminals, and 2 more that are jumpered. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not going to work.
If you do not have tilt, the Monte Carlo NON-tilt pulse wiper switch is 7842716.
Standard DS-817 is the only equivalent aftermarket part for 7843683 that I'm aware of, and they're not cheap either. There may be others.
