I'd like to pick up a Alltest Brainmaster Scanner off of eBay. There are several models; 3210, 3250, 3226 etc. Which model should I get for a 85 SS?

I know Bob (mmc427ss) has used a brainmaster some. I was in the market for one but could never find the newest one so I went with this:

I use the aldlscan app on my phone and the above to Bluetooth. You can datalog the ccc and add inputs like a/f ratio into the 4 extra channels. If you look on this page on my build thread and scroll down a little you will see the datalog screens and the sensor readings.

Its not for everybody but it is an option when it comes to the ccc.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I have no idea how many different scanner brands are out there but the Brainmaster seems to be the forum favorite.

I purchased model 3256 from eBay for $30 because I remember reading on one of these forums that you wanted 3250 or higher models. However, I still have not figured out how to fully use it, I can get it to turn on and set my year, etc. but some readings return a blank for some reason. Has anyone used these before that could give pointers or tips? Maybe an online manual? Google wasn't much help.

I have a 3250, haven't used it in years, bought from Ebay 20 years ago. I'll look this weekend and see if the booklet is still in the plastic case. But I think the unit is pretty much self explanatory once you pick the correct function, which I believe was 82-85 Full Function.
The small slide switch to the left (Columns) with 4 colors above it selects the numbered colored zones. The rotary switch in the center 1-12 selects which piece of info you want to look at.

In the White column, 5,6,7,11
Yellow 3,5,12
Orange 6,9,12
Red 1,3,,9,10

There is others selections that can help with the CCC but those are the primary for troubleshooting and adjusting. Always keep in mind data on a CCC is kinda like playing PONG when it first appeared in 1972. You can drive the car with the Brainmaster plugged and and see real time date but at Pong speed.

What Brent has done with his ability to see the info in real time and log it is big step in the right direction.
