Hello i Have a stock 87 monte carlo ss and i need a new carb bc some parts are missing off of the one I have right now. And I wanted to know what's a good carburetor that I could get. I have been looking at the edelbrock 1406 and the street demon from holly but my dad says I should go with the stock computer controlled carb. I'm not racing it maybe but a little bit of power would be nice. Mainly but driving something reliable.

Keep the CCC Qjet, I use and recommend www.customrebuiltcarbs.com I have had him do two E4ME carbs and basically they were just bolt on and go. Your carb will look and run like new, click on my link and give him a call!!

Welcome to the BEST 4th gen site in the net!!

+1. Keep the CCC Quadrajet. Computers exist in our lives today in all ways for a reason. If you think you can beat a computer with mechanical equipment, think again. Plus, if you delete the CCC Quadrajet, you're into a world of hurt deleting everything else that the computer controls.

Its also illegal to delete the computer controlled carb.

Yep, I agree that a good rebuilt CCC carb will be better than anything universal/aftermarket. If you pull the carb, you basically re-do everything related to fuel and ignition, and you had better know exactly what you are doing or you will probably lose power and almost certainly lose MPG and drivability...
I don't have much personal experience with carb rebuilds, but Leo's recommendation above is a very solid choice by all accounts around here.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure about these CCC being better, but when keeping the computer around, it's ultimately cheaper and easier to get another CCC carb or have yours rebuilt.

I removed my CCC back when I got my SS. I went with a Holley 670 and an old school distributor with a melonized gear. I removed the cruise control linkage and blocked off unused vacuum ports - like for tank vapor recycling, etc, and had to go with a bowtie overdrives transmission lockup module.

If I had to do it again, I'd have kept the CCC and worked through the issues I was having - which is similar to yours in that some linkage was missing/broken.

How much does custom rebuilt carbs or a place like that for a rebuild for a quadrajet?
