Is there any more numbers on the ring or pinion or do you have a tag from the axle housing that the gear came out of? I talked to our parts guys and the e7tw number would mean it was designed for a 1987 truck, but may have come out of anything else with a 8.8.

I have no info for you. I searched the info you gave above and came up empty handed. Hopefully someone can chime in.

zelm 86 ss thanks i did some searching and 1987 is what i came up with as well and i know its a posi but i think its a 3.55 gear not a 3.73 like i was told and have to decide to shorten it to fit my monte or go with a 12 bolt, the price was right so im not complaining ill keep you updated and thanks brent and zelm for chiming in

If it's really a 3.55:1 then it's only 5% taller than a 3.73:1. If a 3.73 is really ideal for your drivetrain, then a 3.55 probably won't make a significant difference. In almost all cases of sub-optimal alignments, think of the Taguchi loss function. HTH.
