Has anyone added vintage air to their car? Friend removed his a/c and heat and now would like to replace it. Would consider just adding heat if not heat and a/c. 1986 Monte.

No experience with Vintage Air but thought I read something about an issue with some of their parts.

Bob, I looked at that site and it doesn't go to the years of our cars!

Kevin, How much of the system did he remove??

Yes, a friend. Do you want his name and number? LOL Restomodair was no help. Leo. The whole HVAC unit was removed. I don't know what he did under the dash if anything at all.

The reason I asked is because the underhood section actually enters under the dash to hook the ducting to the HVAC system that is there!

Kevin you're getting like me, tired of being locked up, testy.

It doesn't look like there is a direct bolt in kit from Vintage for newer, post 70 cars. They would probably put together a cluster of parts to make fit. Mounting the under dash unit after Vintage picks one to fit would be the problem. The under the hood stuff should be cut and paste from them. I'd bet a phone call to them and they would know what has to be done, and how much for a system. Have no idea what their systems cost.

Buying a donor car and stealing the OEM A/C system out of it is an option, but not easy or cheap either. Depending on the engine could be a bolt on with stock parts or the compressor and belt setup brackets to adapt a Sanden compressor. My 85 305 van had an aftermarket A/C kit, adapted compressor mount heavy duty but ugly.

If the friend's car was A/C original my first choice would be put it back to stock under the dash and suitcase with a new evaporator. Then do upgrades to the underhood parts.

Glad I'm still running an all factory R12 system in the car.
When I bought my 72 Chevelle SS the A/C option was about 350 bucks and I couldn't afford that 10 bucks a month more on the car payment at the time. Regretted that decision for 18 years. Every car since that car has had the pleasure of chilling out on a Summer cruise.

A few years ago, I sent Vintage Air an email asking about a unit/kit for G-Bodies. Their reply was that they do not have a kit specifically for G-Bodies. They did not offer to make up a list of parts that I would need. They said I would have to choose a unit myself to fit the 87 Monte Carlo. I do remember viewing a webpage several years ago where someone did install a Vintage Air system in their 80's Monte Carlo. I have not been able to find the web page since.

Not mine but this guy has an lt4 swapped grand national with a vintage air system in the car. Also I think it saves glove box space but don’t know how that compares to a Monte Carlo.

Not easy to find OEM heat only. He doesn't want to go back to the very large AC/Heat unit.

if he only wants heat why not a universal setup similer to what they are using in the sxs world. cheap simple small enough to fit without making a mess cutting stuff and im sure theres a way to duct it into the oem dash ductwork if your creative. just an idea
