Parked my SS at a park. When I left, started the car up and my shifter was all play. After waiting 2 hours for a tow truck, a bud came down and manually put it in drive to get it to his shop.
Under the car, all looks good....wondering when I take the center console off today, what to look for....is there a cable that just gets fried...and if so, are they readily available?
Thanks.

Hey David. Lucky for you, my console is out. haha Here are pics: https://photos.app.goo.gl/sPZ8hfXdjy4T1KUY9

It's possible that the little cotter-pin/clip broke or fell off allowing the cable to pop loose at the shifter. It's a fairly short cable. Possible that it broke, but I think unlikely.

Nope, the cable actually broke....Have two on order, one fro Mikes Montes and one from Rock Auto...we'll see which one works the best.

I'm surprised. Unless something is interfering, that cable isn't under a lot of stress in use. Maybe corrosion? Heaven knows these cars have issues with that...

Those cables have been known to self destruct when there is a failure of the engine grounding. If the engine ground path to battery is compromised the shifter cable can becomes the ground path and carry high current load. Never happened to me but some have had it happen. Was a common thing before everyone put a stick shift trans in.
Just kidding.
