Need ideas other than stock for a shifter that will fit in the stock console. I have a B M something or another and my wife hates the lift up handle that keeps you from getting into reverse. She are you all using with stock console and face plate?

She wants me to go with a PCS button shifter and get the face plate with cup holders.

I've been eyeballing this for the 85. I think it might squeeze in the space between the radio bezel area and the console lid for the 85s, but with the angle of the console flip-up lid, I'm not sure the bottom of the cup holder will clear once it pops out - still might try it myself though.

Should be pretty easy to rig up a holder for it in place of the ashtray on the 86 and up.

You can scroll down and see a video of how it pops out in the Amazon link. It's $25 shipped (plus what ever materials needed to mount it).

I appears to be the same cup holder that these guys sell with a "mount" for $100

Pretty cool. Looks like a little bit of work to install.

Have had one of these Plug and Chug cupholder in the car for years now. It slides into the ashtray track. It doesn't hold a 20 oz coffee well, not being careful splash ends up on the radio. Had to modify the plastic tongue that slides into the track to fit my console install. Some left over SEM interior gray paint and it almost looks like it belongs there.

Oh, a cup holder is an essential when you have a stick. Always nice when another option may come up.

It truly is a small world - lol

Thanks for posting that!!! Looking at the picture, I'm now positive that the bottom of the cup holder (when open) would hit on the front console's flip lid in the 84 and 85s.

However, you did a great job with it and it looks every bit as good as I thought it would in an 86 up.

Yeah the "breadbox" style would interfere. The option with that console would maybe use a 1 din radio, and mount the cup holder right below the radio, that would move it up away from the console enough it wouldn't hit the breadbox door.
