You mean specifically a rear end from a Turbo Regal, or any g-body 8.5”?

Here are links to help in either case(7.5 vs 8.5 pics courtesy of me 20 years ago, 8.5” is no longer silver):

Thanks for the info:, The reason is I picked up 8.5 posi 4.11 ratio that's been gone through for cheap and was told it was out of a GN.The casting marks are on it are 14075742, GM1 and what looks like either I047 or 1047 . Just wanted to check if it was a GN 8.5.

There will be numbers and letters about 3/8" tall stamped into the front face of the right tube on the rear. These tell what the rear was installed in, here's a GN list.
https://buickturboregal.com/rear-axle-codes-turbo-buick-regal/

Also only the G-body used that stupid three bolt (backing plate/ anchor bolt) flange at the tube ends.
The two ears at 5 and 7 o'clock and that number cast into the centersection, 14075742, would indicate an 8 1/2 but not necessarily a G-body 8 1/2".
