Aloha guys.

If this post belong somewhere else, please move it. Otherwise, here we go.

Recently, my heater valve has started to leak and needed to change. For a change, very easy repair. Just swap it out. Repair done.

However, I remember that my engine was removed from the car when it went into body repair and if you ever kept up with my post, car is just not the same after it came back. Finding all kinds of gremlins, both mechanical and electrical. So! here is my question. Just where the heater valve go? What I mean does the valve goes between the hose that comes out from the water pump or from the intake? What about the water flow? From the front goes to cabin or from cabin goes to engine?

I just looked up both the manual and on the net, I couldn't find anything on the manual, although I may have overlook something but I did go both Engine section and heater/AC section. On the net, I found conflicting info, some say the water pump side and some say intake side.

BTW, I need to remove my dash soon to service the heater/AC control and the vacuum switch behind it. Yes, I know I can access the control without removing the dash, but I need to make repair on the blend door hinge anyway.

The heater control valve on my 83 is connected to the intake manifold.
Control valve is on the heater core towards the left side, or closer to the engine.
The other side of core goes to the tank on the radiator.
Water pumps suck water not "pump" or push coolant.

Sorry don't know how to post a picture.

Thanks Richie Cat!

I just wanted to make sure. I hardly use heater at all, but my wife does and I wasn't about to hear her complaint. No, she haven't drove the car yet, and I'm not about to, but she ride as passenger a lot...................

Here is a post with some pictures. Where they are blurry, simply click on the picture and it will take you to photobucket to see the pic.

on my 86, the heater control valve was near the heater core/case, just a short piece of hose, then the control, then on to intake. the return hose goes to the water pump, good luck with your car!!

You might try ACDelco 15-5533 it works the same way that the original heater control valve does (vacuum operated) but, it fully recirculates coolant when closed. I used this in my LS swap makes sure the heater stays cold when closed.
