Don't beat me up on this please.
What are your thoughts and do you think it can be done without removing the dash assembly.

In theory, it can be done, and some have done it.

I tried to install a full cap and found that I couldn't push the cap far enough due to curling of the edge of the original dash as well as foam tape applied to bottom of the windshield near the edge of dash.

I would have had to cut about 1/4 inch of the front edge of the cap, so I decided to remove the dash and fit the cap on the dash while on a table.

Doing this job right now.
The instrument panel must come out, but the fit is pretty good.
Using a Dixie, and the youtube videos help.
You will lose speaker access, so change them out first.

A half cap is actually a good idea since the top of the dash is usually the only damaged area. Hecka lot easier to install.

How do you hide the bottom edge of the half cap?

It looks like the dash "cover" blends in with existing mold lines and seams on the dash.

That's why I want to do it.
If I can clean up the crack areas and smooth them out and fill those areas in I think maybe I can use wedges at the windshield to hold it in place.
Would have to find a way to clamp the front down for the adhesive also.

What bothers me about a half cap is this picture from a current eBay auction for a 1986 Monte Carlo SS:

There are a few more dash pictures in the details area of the listing.

I know this post is about the dash but in looking at the listing above and going through the pictures I find it hard to believe that this car only has 215 miles. Also not a big fan of how the dash looks screwed at the lower edge.
