Sorry for the same question, but I know I asked this before and one of the member left a detailed diagnostic and fix, but I guess I'm getting too old and I can find the damn post! I'm not sure how I posted, but did a search with both "fuel gauge" and "gas gauge" but couldn't find the post! So please, if you find it, please share the link here and I'll save it in my favorite. But in the mean time...................

My fuel gauge is out of whack. When key is turned, gauge read pass the full line. Is this simple ground problem or I have a bad sender? I haven't taken the gauge panel off yet, and keep a sharp look on the tripmeter and when it get to around 125, I go to gas station (max I got out from the car is 150, give and take). Yes. My trans is slipping really bad and I need to replace it. I have the rebuild trans under the house. I just haven't got the time to replace it yet (too many project going at same time. 89' ZX7, 82 KZ750, and Lincoln LS as daily driver needs whole rear suspension replacement which runs about $1000. No I don't want, but my wife drives that car........................).

The first place to check is the sender ground located close to the tank's filler neck
Next easiest would be the cluster plug at the lower right back corner of the cluster.
Then check the three connections of the gauge to the printed circuit. That's were the fix for my erratic gauge was done, poor connection on one pin of the gauge.

It's possible the sender is bad but I'd say that's the most unlikely place.

Thanks guys. I finally had some time to work on my SS today. Yup. It was printed circuit. See below.

I also blame this on the body shop guys. I had the car pretty much stripped and they fixed the whole shell/body. So they removed everything interior, some exterior and certain stuff in engine bay. I had mechanical water temp gauge hooked up on the gauge cluster, so when taking off the water temp gauge capillary tube (I think that's what they call it. Could be wrong spelling..................), I noticed that they did one messy job re-hooking the whole system. they pretty much rearranged the whole wiring that I had. I also had remote starter but now, when I push the button, instead of car firing up, I get something like panic button function (duration on the button depressed, horn sounds now).

Only good thing that came out from the body shop is that I have very nice shell now. Everything else are nightmare....................

Anyway, I'll try fix this but everything else fail, I'll may look for new printed circuit.
