i don't have a pic of it but its a black rubber plug about 3/4 inch diameter.
it has 2 male spade connectors in it.one is vertical and the other is horizontal.
its kinda greasy so I don't think it goes on the top of the engine.
the car originally had a 3.8 v6 and this plug is on the pass side.
any ideas?

Sounds like it had an engine block heater at one time.

car was bought and resided in florida for all of its life before I got it .
could it have possibly gone to the trans that I scrapped with the engine?
the wire looks long enough to go there.
it was one of those pre 200r transmissions

What color are the wires? Sounds like it's the wires for the lockup torque.

Yeah. That looks like the wires that powers the AC compresser. There's 2 switches. I took all of them off my car last year. I think one goes to the power steering pressure line. I removed them I wired the direct.

there is no plug on the ps pump hose.(I have one on my 86)
if it doesn't go there where is the other spot you mention?
my compressor has a plug on it with 2 wires but it is narrow and side by side.

It looks like it's the plug that goes to the pressure switch on the ac accumulator.
Look here and go down to post #6.

OK I stand corrected. Went over to where my car is stored and saw that the plug for the pressure accumulator pressure switch is 3 wires.
My car was a V6 and TH200C trans.
I have the same plug as what you have with the label still on it when I changed out the trans to a 200R4.
It say's "pressure switch R/S of trans"
88ss408 suggested it was for lock up and I would agree with that..
The rubber boot is about 1/2" in diameter and the two wires have old oil on them and the color of them looks to be dark blue or green.
I pulled the wires up so they are at the firewall near the distributor.
I would show a picture but I have Photobucket and can't post it on the forum.

The plug your holding in that pic seems to have 2 dark green wires. That's why I mentioned the AC clutch wires.
and I remember taking off 2 of them switches one was at the sterring hose. And the other one I can't remember now.

ok almost done.
this is the big clump of wires that go into the pass side firewall thru the inner fender.im pretty sure I can clip all of these and I wont ever be going back to the computer.the 2 wires in my hand im not sure if I should clip though.one is a big ground wire(do I need it hooked up)?
and the other is a 4 prong plug that im not sure where it goes either.
weve already determined that its not the plug for the trans.
any ideas?
alsi I need to run a hot to my choke.
a couple of these wires seem hot when the key is on.is it a bad idea to run one of these to the hot wire on the choke?
thanks again for all of your help!

Don't cut the harness. A good uncut harness is worth a $100 or more. Also the open air cleaner is sucking in hot air and causes turbulence into the carb.

Everything coming from the passenger side bulkhead can be taken off.
Yes the 12v + can be taken from any keyed source. Just don't take it from the distributor wire like some do.

Been a long time but I think that 4 prong is for the smog pump. It's on the pass. side right? Oh and I agree with the other guys. Don't cut the harness. They're not making them anymore, so it's got some value. Pull the kickpanel, undo 3 plugs, and push it all through the firewall. I made a plate out of some flashing to cover the hole. Put a couple "ears" on it and lay a bead of sealer on it. Run a couple sheet metal screws through the existing holes and you'll be all set.
