Thanks to everyone for all the useful information that is available. I am attempting to add RKE from a 1998 Monte Carlo. It is my understanding that this is a stand alone system. I am attempting to add power locks to my 1988 Monte Carlo SS so this is not being done the traditntal way that most have done since they are adding it to there existing power lock system. I am trying to use aftermarket door acutators hooked up with the RKE module. I get the module hooked up to the actuator and then ground out the program wire for the lock to cycle but it does not. I can hear the module trying to do something but it is not cycling the actuator. Has anyone attempted this with after market parts? Or have any suggestion on what to try next? Thanks in advance.

I don't recall anyone trying this with a GM system. More common and probably much easier is using an aftermarket/universal RKE system.
Trying to interface a modern CAN/bus module with old school wiring might be more trouble than its worth.
Attempting this would require wiring diagrams from both platforms.
Just my opinion and as usual I might be wrong.

Thanks for the replies. I had thought about going with an aftermarket RKE system but I was trying to think ahead and use a GM stand alone in case the remotes get loss. Figured it would be easier to find a GM remote than getting another aftermarket remote programmed further down the road.

Jameson:
I looked over this wiring diagram and believe I have everything hooked up correctly. Im using aftermarket power door lock actuators so there are only 2 wires. 1 for the unlock and 1 for the lock. When I ground the program wire the module makes a sound like its trying to do something but the aftermarket actuators do not cycle.

This is why I was curious if anyone else has tried this.

I just sold a car that had a remote start that was about ten years old. I had to replace one of the remotes and a new version was still available that worked with the old system. I wouldnt be worried about replacing the remote. My advice though is if you go aftermarket though is go with a reputable brand so you dont have that issue. Some of these cheap no name brands they sell I could imagine having the issue. Companies like Clifford, Viper, Code Alarm, Audiovox have been around for 30 plus years and arent going anywhere.
