How does the lacquer and enamel paint jobs differ from a two stage besides the obvious paint then clear?

Its all in their chemical make up.
Years ago you heard a lot about the show cars having hand rubbed Lacquar paint jobs. Lacquar is a softer paint. Oxidizes, crazes and cracks.
Single stage enamel is more durable but, if it isn't a solid color it is hard to buff the orange peel or to blend a repair.

2 stage base/clear has the durability and is easier to blend, buff and repair.
Best of both.

Newer water base systems are supposed to be the next break thur in paint but, they require a heated low moisture paint booth. Which can be expensive, but much better for the environment.

Everyone has a different opinion on what is best.
Most of the time, it will come down to how the car is used.
The area the car is because of elements.
Is it dry, moist, garaged?
Or a weekend cruiser that never sees rain.

Lacquer is illegal to sell, especially California. Last time I bought it, it was sold only in small quantities. That was 15 years ago.
