At some point it may, don't know why it was welded since it's supposed to thread in.

the problem with this is that you cannot adjust it anymore.usually "at least what ive seen and done"is to weld a plate behind the washer.this way tou can still move the post around.

But if it's located properly to align the door there is no need to worry about future adjustments.

90's GM trucks had a 2" dia washer next to the body instead of the 1" G body washer - wonder if the truck washer is a worthwhile addition to the car strikers increasing the support area?

The sheet metal around the door striker bolt is prone to breakage and fracture due to constant slamming of a door with bad hinges. My car had this problem.
I had the fractures welded and then I installed a reinforcing plate..from turbobuick I think. After fixing the hinges and aligning the door, I had no further problems. Since you need to move the striker bolt around, welding the striker bolt was a bad idea. You also need to remove the bolt to align the door. This is what the plate looks like although this is not my car. Op you also need a new seatbelt release lever.

What are my options to repair it?

The only way is to slowly grind off the weld, remove the striker, prime and paint, then reinfoce the area like the above post.

But I would guess the striker was welded because the thredded plate in behind that panel is strpped, you need to remove the rear seat and corner trim to access the area behind the striker to repair.

Awesome idea for the reinforcement plate anyways needed or not.

Agreed that it is likely a quick fix for a stripped plate. See quick weld repairs like this on old tractors all the time and a pita to correct. Possible that it may be a quick fix from a collision.
