Back in 2008 i installed a set of LS1 front brakes on my car. These are made up of a 12" rotor with dual piston aluminum caliper. A nice upgrade over stock. Recently I noticed a crack forming in one of the rotors, which seems to be a common issue with drilled rotors. 8 years of service wasnt too bad and I was almost due for a fresh set of pads anyway. Being I was going to have to buy rotors, I descided to upgrade.
Rock Auto had a good price on a set of Power Stop drilled slotted and zinc coated Z06 Corvette rotors. At 14" these things are Monsters compaired to the factory 10".
For Calipers I chose 04-07 Caddilac CTS-V 4 pistons Brembos.
Being I already had brackets for the LS1 brakes installed this setup was a direct swap.

Im not going to go into a detailed install post, but it should be noted you will need at leadt 18" wheels for these brakes to fit. All needed info can be found in the link below:

http://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension-brakes/1130984-cts-v-brake-install-w-pics.html

The Z06 rotors are not light either at nearly 10 lbs each more than the ls1. However the additional stopping power was immediately noticable on the break in drive.

In a few weeks I will also post pics of the rear disc conversion thats on the way.

LS1 brakes

LS1 Rotors 16.8 lbs

Z06 rotors 25.2 lbs

That kit is designed to use a 13" rotor and dual piston caliper that is essentially the same as the ls1 caliper. The hubs are nice in that kit, but if you want to save some loot just have your rotors turned down

All I can say is WOW, they look impressive.
You haven't been real active recently here, good to see the car is still in need of upgrades.

I dont think you can without changing to the LS1 adapter bracket. I would imagine your bracket is spaced differently to allow room for the 13" rotor.

Im waiting on a baer ss4 kit to arrive for the rear, then i will update after install

Correct, all you need is the bracket.

They do look good. Those things must really give her some whoa. Whats the investment to go that route?

I was going to upgrade my wilwood fronts to 13" next year.

The rotors were $88usd each
Calipers were around $500 fully loaded for both
I think the adapter brackets were around $75 back when i got then and then the cost to turn the other rotors down to hubs. It worked out way cheaper that going with any aftermarket comparible brake kit i saw, plus I rather use off the shelf OE style parts whenever I can

The Baer SS4 rear kit arrived last week and I was able to button up the install over the weekend. I forgot to take pics as I went along, but did grab a few when I remembered. The SS4 kit i chose has 12" rotors and 4 piston calipers. The reason I went with this kit iver something like the LS1 brakes was the ease of keeping the parking brake functioning and the fact it came with appropriate cables, also frame and shock clearance isnt a issue with the Baer calipers

Started off with aluminum drums (available in the parts for sale section if anyone is interested smile )

Drilled slotted zinc plated 12" rotors

The backing plates are really nice machined aluminum pieces with drum style parking brake assembly.

After removing the axles you will have to drill a few holes in the housing flange to mount the new backing plates

You will also have to rebend the brake lines to line up with the calipers new flex lines. Baer provides some small tabs to hold everything in place, I chose to weld them to the diff instead of using the provided hose clamps to secure them.

I have since rerouted the flex line so they were further away from the shock after this pic was taken.

Bled the brakes and adjusted the park brake cables, bam rear disc.

Nice! How is the proportioning now? Have you bed them in and tried some super hard panic stops to see which end locks up first?

You still have stock master and booster right? Stock distribution block as well?

I bed the pads in but baer also suggests the rotors need to be heat cycled before any major brake action occurs. So far that has happened but I need to get the car back out to really test them out and see if the rears are prematurely locking up. If that is the case ill look into a inline adjustable prop valve.
I still have the stock prop valve, but I upgraded to the B body booster a few years back.
I will report back if I find anything out of the ordinary on a more aggressive shake down.

I like those calipers, but in the interest of spending less money, I'm converting my front LS1 brakes to the 14", but using the corvette caliper that looks like the LS1 caliper. Do you happen to know if the LS1 caliper will work rather than having to buy the Corvette caliper, and oh yeah, did you use the same "LS1" hub with your new 14" rotor? TIA

So far I can answer my own question regarding the LS1 calipers. The Corvette calipers for 14" brakes are larger.

In case anyone has interest in this modification, now, or in the future, I test fitted my new Corvette 14" rotors on my LS1 hubs and they fit with no problem. I have the rotors and C5/C6 calipers, so all I need is the conversion adapters for the 14" rotors I ordered from FLYNBYE.

I did the LS1 brake conversion a few years back. A very worthwhile upgrade and parts for that conversion are plentiful in the boneyards.

I finally completed my 14" Corvette rotor/caliper conversion on my Grand National, once I got the correct caliper brackets.
