So today i was driving a 2010 camaro ss with the 6.2L bone stock exept for cold air intake. It hauled xxxx !!! What surprised me was it weighs over 4700 pounds!! Thats about 1400 pounds more then my 86 monte ss. Have always been hardcore old school but definitely considering this swap now. Does anyone know what the original 305 with 200r4 weighs in comapison with the newer style ls and trans? Im assuming it must be quite a bit lighter being mostly aluminum?

A LOADED 2010 5th Gen Camaro is less than 4K, closer to 3900 I would guess.

Auto trans weight comparison, the 200R, 4L60, 4L65 trans weigh close to the same. The 2010 SS has a 6L90 trans, a good bit heavier and larger case than the 200R.

The LS3 weighs in at close to 415 out of the crate. A SBC weight would depend on which block is used, cast iron or alum heads, intake, water pump, accessory drives. Would say 525 would be a good averaged weight with alum parts. So about 100 lb lighter for the LS3.

Thanks for the info bob. I was going by the gvwr on the camaro said 4710. Either way its still a huge jump in power to weight ratio. smile

Agreed, I lost about a 100lbs on the front end for my swap.
Nose high stance on my car confirms the weight loss.
I have 2" drop spindles ready to install.
I also agree the Gen 5 weighs around 3900. My son has a 2011 SS/RS/6spd.

I didn't see much weight change but I'm also running an Iron block but AL heads.

Power difference? It's a different universe. My Monte hangs with the ninja 900 on the highway. Granted I'm definitely not stock.

I wonder IF I'll ever get to finish the dang blasted hot sides?

I went from cast iron everything 4.3 V6 to iron block 5.3, and the nose height stayed right about the same.

It ain't much off the line, but it's nice on the highway
