I'm waiting for my trans to show up and decided to do some work when I have a free minute. Do I need to support the engine somehow without the trans in place. if so what is the best way to support it without the trans in place
I have my new engine in place and it wants to tilt back with it not supported. I have a jack under the pan now but am going to need it when the trans comes in. how do you folks support the engine with the trans out?
Leave the distributor out so it won't break when it tilts. Line up the motor with the motor mounts and slide the motor mount bolts in. It won't go anywhere with those in place. The slight tilt it has left will be helpful when getting the transmission lined up and in place. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
I have a jack under the pan with a 2x4 laying across horizontally. It's ok now but I only have one jack which will become a problem when I need to lift the car to put the trans in. I wonder if I could put a board horizontally between the heads and firewall?
Put a block of wood between the back of the engine and firewall and let the engine rest against it. Jack the car up so you can install the trans and when you do use your engine hoist to hold the back of the engine while you use your jack to install the trans.
Just getting home for the night and I think this is how I'm going to do it. Hopefully I can figure out where some of the wires go after pulling the harness through the firewall. I seems like there are still wires that I wont use but not sure.
