In the unlikely event anyone's interested, here's what happened this year: grin

Set a personal best for miles travelled! Over 3000 which is exceeded only by the year I bought it when it was my daily. These included trips to both Musclepalooza shows. After the disaster of last year it was a treat to go through a full season with no mechanical issues.

Speaking of last year, here's a shout out to SickSpeedMonte for his excellent clutch pedal kit that got me out of the garage after missing the entire summer. (Both of my kids bought houses, summer was spent doing Dad stuff before fixing the car...)

The only stumbling block this year was medical, instead of mechanical. I was laid up for a couple of weeks following cancer surgery. It was caught early, treatment went as well as could be hoped and the prognosis is good. It was the most aggressive form of melanoma, now sunscreen and funny hats are the new normal.
Allow me to recommend these to everyone reading this.

Next year I'm hoping to get started on the electronic HVAC controls as seen in the DIY section.
Anyone else do anything interesting this year? silverside

Thanks alot for the update Clutch. I was curious as to how things are going with you.
Glad to hear that you were able to get out and enjoy your car more this year. Looking forward to seeing your HVAC control upgrade.
As a prostate cancer survivor, I would also like to echo your advice about being careful, and getting checked up on a regular basis. I know it sounds kind of corny, but it can save your life.
Because of my work schedule and other things, I wasn't able to get my Monte out as much as I would have liked this past summer. I did finally manage to get the fiberglass cowl induction hood off the car, and get the Goodmark steel cowl induction hood on the car. It looks and fits much better than the fiberglass hood.
I recently picked up another hobby car. I found a 1980 Chev Malibu 2 door, that's a factory 305 V8/4 speed car. It needs some mechanical work and some cosmetics, but the body and frame look good. Looking forward to getting it fixed up, and having a car with a manual transmission again.

I can highly recommend a Tilley hat...started wearing mine this spring and I love it.

I never was much of a hat wearer so spending almost $100 on a hat seemed to be out of the question. After trying 2 or 3 of the cheaper versions, I bit the bullet and wish I would have done it sooner. They are great, you almost don't even know you have it on.

Congrats on the successful year. While I traveled to a lot of events this year, received some fantastic PR, I was not as successful on course as I would have liked...so changes are in store to try to correct that for next year.

3000 miles in that ss of yours sounds like the makings of a fun year.

Did you use the a white 87-88 stripe kit after converting to that style? I thought you could only get black stripes with the gray 87-88 from the factory.. looks good with the 87-88 bumper

Jeff: It's so much about the screening. They've been keeping a close watch on my PSA levels for quite a while now. Congrats on winning your bout.
Your 'bu sounds like a nice aquisition. I once owned a 305/4-speed Cutlass Supreme. Miss it badly.

SSLance: I've bought a couple of similar hats with a 'curtain' around the back. No worries about what they look like, keeping out of the sun trumps all.
Keep up the good work on the track, this looks like something I should try one of these years. Anything to get me out of the house and into the driver's seat!

Chris: yes, those are stripes for the white '87-88 SS on my car. I wasn't loving the grey stripes on the silver cars as the factory provided.

Hi Leo. Just to clarify, I'm the prostate cancer survivor. Frank has survived melanoma.
Frank, thanks for the props on the Malibu. I'm looking forward to getting out in it, and rowing through the gears. I've always liked your Monte. As I said before, I look forward to the electronic HVAC upgrade.

That era was just a few years ahead of my time. I came close to enlisting (during peacetime) but opted out. Should have...

Great update, Clutch. Just another thing I'd like to add in case you haven't thought about it is "fishing shirts" if your arms are at risk for melanoma too. They can be pricey at stores like boater's world or west marine but are usually long sleeved, light fabric and well vented to keep you cool but fully protected at (I believe) an SPF50+ level.

Sounds like something that Bass Pro Shops would carry. And they happen to host one of the best cruise nights in the area. Win win!
Thanks for the tip. wave
