The online Qjet parts places list two different base gaskets for 17086003 E4ME Qjets. Some places like carbs unlimited say this gasket.

While others like Qjetparts.com list this one.

Anyone know which one is better? The carb will be bolted onto a GM ZZ4 intake.

The GM 10069984 is the best gasket available, pricey, but the only one I use. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-10069984

The one I got with my rebuild qjet was the one on top.

It seems more places cite using the top one over the bottom one so I think I will go with the top. Especially if that is what GM suggests. Both are 1/4 inch thick with the nylon inserts to help prevent warping the carb.

The GM gasket I suggested has a special soft, smooth, material on each side that will stick to the carb and manifold and offers a better seal. All other gaskets I've seen, including Ruggles, are to hard and require cranking down on carb bolts to crush the materiel. Only downside to the 10069984 gasket is it is not reusable. I don't mind paying more for them, they seal the best with the least bolt torque, have bought many over the years and consider them disposable.

Do you torque the bolts to 12 lbs per foot with the GM gasket?

No, I tighten by feel. Always using SAE washers under all four bolts, the front two bolts will scar and distort the air horn without washers. Going around the carb I just snug the bolts, then after a cool down I will snug them again. If I had to guess more like 5 lb/ft. Over tightening of the carb bolts on a Qjet can warp the base, body and air horn, it pulls the corners. That's why I like the recommended GM gasket, it softer, conforms to the surfaces better, seals better, and you don't have to over tighten the bolts to get the proper crush on the gasket. I know the Helm's Service manual says 12 lb/ft, but I prefer to snug initially, then over the course of playing under the hood to just recheck those bolts (and the airhorn screws) by snugging. Eventually the carb base is evenly pulled against the spacer in the carb gasket and the bolts remain tight.

Hi guys,
I came across this thread looking for the GM# for the 1/4" thick OE E4ME base gasket. Looks like 10069984 is the ticket, but it's getting harder to find and is kind of pricey. I found a Fel Pro base gasket that looks like a similar replacement (1/4" thick) and seems to be easier to find. It's Fel Pro # 1908 and goes for $10-$15 most places.

Long time Andy, good to see you still have the car.
The 10069984 gasket shows on gmpartsdirect for a decent price. Not a fan of the FelPro gasket, or Ruggle gasket, to hard.
