Hello everyone. I've been lurking on this site for the last 4 or five years and decided to jump in. I live in the Texas Hill Country. I had wanted a mid eighties Monte Carlo SS since 1987 when one of my buddie's dads picked us up from middle school in a brand new black '87 Monte SS. (He was the head mechanic at a local dealership in a small town in South Dakota) My first new car was a new 1997 Monte that I loved but it wasn't a Gen.4 and didn't really cut it. Years ago I found a black 1987 SS that a customer of ours owned (he was the original owner) and although the car had issues, I asked if it was for sale. I asked him every time I saw him if he was interested in selling it but it was his and his wife's first new car and they were/are attached to it. So about 5 years after my first inquiry, I received an e-mail saying it was time to sell her. Of course, it was the worst possible time for me as my wife and I had just (like a week before) had a baby and we were not in a financial position to drop the money. My dad intercepted the e-mail as it was sent to our business address and told me we needed to get it so he financed it's purchase. Thanks pops! It was during the cash for clunkers program and the guy didn't want to trade it knowing it would be destroyed. He wanted the car to go to someone that wanted to restore it and enjoy owning it and I think he wanted to be close to it so he could see it around town. Its taken a number of years to be in the position to get things rolling but she's in the midst of a major restoration right now and I hoping it will be completed, minus interior, within the next couple months. I really appreciate all the information I have gleaned from this site and your willingness to share your valuable information with others. I hope to meet up with some other Monte people in the near future. So, hello y'all!

Very cool!!
cool

My wife and I sure enjoyed your part of the country a few years ago. Fun driving roads and HQ for our visit to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels and of course the incredible TX BBQ. Best in the U.S.
