I have a great condition 200r4 but have gone crazy with my engine build (was supposed to rering it and drop it in, now it's a 383 lol)and now need to have it built or sell it and buy a built trans. I know there are a few guys that are supposed to be go to for this trans but I know some are no longer around. Please give me recommendations based on 500hp/500tq. Thanks

Extreme Automatics. Located in Ohio, Lonnie Diers runs it...kind of a one-man shop. Best purchase I ever made for my car. I run a 475 horse 383 and beat the living daylights out of it. I have over 15,000 street and track miles on the transmission and not a drop of fluid out of it and reliable as can be. The trans changed the whole attitude of how my car drives. I'm running his 9.5 inch non-lockup converter and it is amazing! Worth every penny.

Last I checked Lonnie moved in with Gbodyparts.com in North Carolina. Either way, Lonnie gets my vote.

I know of one in Laurel, Md, but that is a bit of a ride for you. the owner is Steve Powell and is a member of the Maryland Chevelle Club too. Thoroughbred Transmissions is the name of the shop if you want to goggle it to find the number and talk to Steve. Good luck. Or click on this link and search for his business in the business directory. www.mdchevelleclub.com

Janis Transmissions in Akron Oh. Vince specializes in 200r4 and TH400 hi performance transmissions. He is big with the turbo Buick (GN) crowd and has his trans are in some really fast GN's. I can personally recommend him. He built the trans for my old 87 Turbo T Type and the TH400 in our 10 Sec. pro street 84SS were both built by Vince.

A good thread to keep updated esp with the builders list link further up in this thread.

I had my 200 4R rebuilt by Vince Janis of Janis Transmissions in Akron OH (330-753-6609). One of the premier 200 4R guys (not a lot of them actually) specializing in turbo buick builds and the lighter and less power robbing 200 4Rs for street and strip. He used to race buicks and gets most of his business by word of mouth. Stage II gets crisp shifting but not jerky at up to 600HP ($2000 but it's all quality parts and upgrades). A very modest no-frills shop; when you are there you may run into guys from all over the eastern US. I thought about going manual but can't imagine making three shifts anywhere near as fast. If you go there give me a pm and I'll swing by.

Vince Janis built my 200R4 in my Monte. I run a ZZ383 with 425hp. I had him set mine up for a non-lockup torque converter (PTC 10" 2800 stall). He modified the governor to shift at 5500 rpm's in drive. I drive the car plus bracket race it and have 125 plus passes so for.

You really don't need all the billet parts but I would get the billet forward drum at a minimum.

Craig

Been to his place. He will dyno his unit or yours before you install it also.
