that's pretty common on GM's from about 2000 till about '08.

there was a recall on the trucks because the speedo's would fail, but i don't think the recall includes any of the "accessory" gauges such as tach/fuel/oil/temp/volts.

the common failure is the stepper motors that drive the needles, they fail/wear out over time, there are places online that you can ship the cluster to for them to fix, or you may be able to find a repair shop in your area you can take it to.

there are the rare occasions when there's a problem with the car and not the cluster, but normally when this occurs it's either one gauge or all, normally not just a couple.

a quick way to tell if its just the gauge(stepper motor) failed is during the "self" test. Most GM's will run a self test when you first turn the key on, the gauges should drop to zero and then run through their full sweep, and then return to where they should be. HTH

Google "GM cluster repair", there are numerous places that repair the clusters for very reasonable. Certain years had problems with the stepper motors, replacing several on the cluster may be necesary. Also the cluster lights are a problem, they are soldered to the board, the bulbs are not readily available.

Also you can find You-tube video which shows removal of the cluster.

My 02 SS has a bulb out next to the tach, bought 30 bulbs so I had enough to do several clusters, just can't find the interest to remove the cluster out of the wife's SS for one bulb.

my 01 SS cluster failed and luckily it was covered under the extended warranty i purchased...there are kits on EBAY for the DIYer if you'd like to attempt that. You can also send it out to one place, get LEDS put in, and custom gauge faces put on as well as replace the motors...
