Im a GN guy but my roots go with the Grand Nationals. I've built many GN's and finally got a Monte again. I put a GN1Performance exhaust on my 383 Monte this past couple days. This is the exhaust to go with on GN and I figurred I would throw one on the Monte. All I can say is this system out does any exhaust in the planet and on a v8, WOW!!! This is a stock style with a y pipe. If u guys are running a stock y pipe, you should really think about it. Cars a pooch compared to my gn but sounds amazing!!

Jeremy, can you post some pics. Isn't it all polished stainless steel, 3" pipes. How loud is it?

Ill do that! Ill have my wife take a Youtube video so I can post it. I have a test pipe, if you need a hollow cat, I do have one. This exhaust makes our cars sound amazing. All my goal for his car was is to havea six speed and to sound beast! So far I have the beast sound, just need to get the six speed in there!

Well Darn it, of course it has to rain today! I'll see what I can do tomorrow. If your running a stock Y pipe style exhuast, this really wakes the car up. I had a Dynomax system on it before that was 2.5" and the car sounded really weak! Now the car sounds faster than it actually is. We use these a lot on our GN's because its about the only exhuast that will help our V6's sound decent. I figured what the heck, I'll try it on my Monte! Good choice! The car sounds like a newer LS powered Camaro with the SLP loudmouths on them.

I took pics of mine installed but can't load them on here for some reason. Any ideas why? Here's a link http://www.gn1performance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=3InchExhaust

Hi Jdpolzin,

If the 383 is a "pooch" then you're GN's must be amazing. Can you share any details about those GN's?

"WOW!!!" = "loud," right? And perhaps loud especially in the bass region? Just want to understand the context for your enthusiasm.

Thanks,
MAP

That really sounds good. How loud is it while cruising on the highway? I can't make up my mind to get the GN1 exhaust or the Magnaflow.

It's actually not loud in the car at all. Sounds exactly the way I wanted it to. It's comparable to an ls motor with the new style SLP mufflers.

Jeremy, was the exhaust system easy to install? I'm leaning toward getting the GN1 exhaust since its' about $200 cheaper than the Magnaflow. Thanks for your help.

Hi Folks,

This reminds me that the ideal exhaust system will do the following sonically:

1) Cancel all noise emitted by the motor.
2) Create all noise desired by the owner.

Passively, or even actively, filtering the noise emitted by the motor doesn't necessarily guarantee the second outcome.

This may sound like rocket science, but the OEM'ers are focusing an increasingly large budget to achieve a certain kind of engine sound for the driver, that oftentimes bears little resemblance to the "natural" sound of the engine. Accentuating the 4th engine harmonic seems to be a desirable spectral component, for instance.

We now return you to regularly-scheduled threading.

Best,
MAP

I would say this is the best sounding Monte I have ever heard that doesn't have an LS motor in it. The car is exactly like I wanted. I will say that I planned to switch to an LS motor just for the sound. My car makes 338 RWHP, which is what I would expect from a basic LS swap but I was really only wanting to swap to get the sound. Not worried about power. Now I don't have to do that because the car is exactly where I want it. Now just time to go with the T56 and 4:10 rear for better burnouts and fun of bangin gears!

Wowzers. That exhaust sounds dead sexy!! Don't know how much it costs but it's probably worth every penny!

I agree. I am one of the rare people who wouldn't have anything other than the exhaust exit out the rear. I know alot of people seem to like the "behind the rear tires" "GN" exit better.

As far as the exhaust, it does sound good. My comment above isn't meant to take anything away from it thumbs

I think the total was $710 shipped. It's polished front to rear including the mufflers. I also bought a polished stainless test pipe off ebay for $95 so I basically have $805 into the exhaust.

Yeah guys, I understand wanting it to exit the rear in factory form. I personally like it to exit like the GN does. Unfortunately they don't make it specifically for the Monte but if someone wanted to call Archie at GN1, He might see about getting it made.

Might be able to use the tails off the Pypes setup.
http://pypesexhaust.com/attachment/67616-SGG10-SGG12-SGG13-SGG50-SGG53.pdf
I run the 3" full setup from them and the tails are not as cocked as they indicate on the picture.
they point strainght back and offset just right to follow the frame over the rear (unless they changed sinse I bought mine)
I do like the sound of those mufflers. Chambered muffs are raspy by nature, those sound like they have filler to get the rumble nice.

They actually arent chambered at all. They are practically straight through. Very similar to new muffler style SLP's.
