Mild 350, built 200-4, soon to be big block. Keep that in mind....
My rear end is making a loud noise, and I feel it's getting ready to go. Is there a strong, disk brake rear end that's a good junkyard swap for these cars?

Unfortunatey, the only bolt-in rear for our cars that is any better than the 7.5"/7.625" is the 8.5" from a Buick GN or Olds 442(85-87) or Hurst Olds(84) but they also came with drum rear brakes.

short answer is they don't fit. They use a torque arm suspension.
Your options are the 8.5 mentioned above or buy a 9 in. or 12 bolt or an S60 from a place like Quick Performance,Currie, etc. There is no inexpensive upgrade for the rear end.

The old Chevelle 12 bolts 'almost fits' but no disk brakes you would have to add that.
Here is the info I found:
the lowers bolt right in , the uppers need to be off set look on ebay do a "g body" search and look for 12 bolt conversion upper they are around $145 or go to malibu racing.com and check site sponsor iceman he has them, you will need to move the coil spring holder from infront of the axle tubes to the top of the tube and then you need to run a different backspace wheel you need 5 1/2 back space instead of the regular 4 1/2 back space.

I believe when they were A bodies (based on Chevelle)

Yes, these were the same as the Chevelles and is an A-body like I wrote about. Same thing, you can use it with some modifications.

It was used in GM cars like Chevelles from 1965 to 1972 when the corporate 10 bolt was used. They continued to be used in trucks up until 1982.
The El Camino's were the same, they got the 10 bolt in 1972.

The Corporate 8.5" 10-Bolt started to be used in 70, before that the 8.2" 10-Bolt was used Chevelles. 12-Bolt = 65-72.

I got my 12 bolt out of a 69 Chevelle. I used the UMI 12 bolt swap kit for the install. I also already had their adjustable lower control arms already. But, you can use the Chevelle control arms in the Monte. The brake lines will bolt right up to the wheel cylinders of the ones in the 12 bolt. YOu just might want to add a bit of extra line to the rear cause it is a little tight. You will need the extra backspaced wheels for it as well. I have seen people that install it and never moved the spring perches from the 12 bolt location to be centered over the axle. I guess that is up to you on that front. You can use any of the rears out of the Chevelle from 66-72. Other than that it's pretty simple swap.

.. Some Ford 8.8" (Versailles, T-Birds?)) and 9" (Lincoln) rears came with disc brakes and posis, but would need redrilled wheel bolt pattern, maybe narrowed axle housings and axles, remounted or added suspension mounts... or Strange and Moser can supply everything ready to bolt in...

.. Prolly should identify exactly what's making the noise in your current rear end/suspension and exactly what rear end it is... some rear ends are supposed to make obnoxious noises!

Clunking or whining? My original rear end started whining at certain speeds as the miles got up there. Then when the pinion seal was leaking after it sat for two years it made more noise when the fluid got low. The 7.5 7-5/8 rears can handle some power as long as you never put slicks on it, or let it wheel hop.

For what some people want for a stock 8.5 I'd invest that money in an aftermarket rear end or having a 9" or 12-bolt modified to fit. There's Gears R Us on Dixie, Wayne Grubb might even have something laying around.

My original rear would wine. Could be wear or low on fluid or just old fluid. Anything you find with a 7-5/8 with 26 spline axles the gears and carrier will fit in yours. You may have to re-shim everything for your housing or it may just drop in. I think all the Camaros and S-10s had 26-spline axles like the G-bodies. I've never done gears but I already know my s-10 will need a limited slip cause even with the 4.3 it's a tire fryer.

Around 88 most all 7.5"/7.625" 10-bolts switched from 26-spline to 28-spline axles so, check first.
