I recently installed a Pypes X-pipe system on my 72 Monte with their Violator mufflers and I was pretty worried about how loud it was going to be. Once I got it all buttoned up I was pretty surprised and the sound, pretty quiet at idle and nice tone at WOT yet very little drone at 70mph. It is definatly MUCH quieter than the glasspack exhaust that was on the car but still sounds great after a couple hundred miles.

Here are the other pictures I took. Pretty happy with the end result. I would have liked the drivers side to fit just a tad better, but I can live with the results. The tail pipes exit at the same height from under the bumper, I just need to cut the left side back about 2" and get the rear hangers welded so I can get rid of those clamps.

Pypes still needs to come out and admit they screwed up. But I would not recommend this system unless you have the equipment to bend the pipes yourself to make it fit.

A muffler shop recommended by my nephew fixed up my Pypes cat-back today. The work involved cutting both tailpipes and 're-clocking' them. Tabs to attach the front of the tailpipes to the factory hangers were added and the supplied rear pipe hangers were welded so that the visible clamps could be eliminated. All for a quite reasonable $150.
The total cost was still less expensive than a fabbed-from-scratch custom system but not by much. And the PIA factor can't be calculated.
But at least it sounds good. And seems to have woken the car up a bit as well. burnout

My 2nd flow master kit fit perfectly. Not the cheapest, but it fit the first time. Only the collectors needed to be shortened to proper length (on purpose for different header applications) and welded to the flange. If I had my welder back then, it could have all been done in my home garage. They do also offer a cutback version. Mine is a true dual setup coming off of long tube headers in both cases
