has any body had any trouble with the tailpipes sticking out past the frame in the wheel well right before they follow the quarter? mine are past the frame rails and the dam tires are hitting. any help would be great. also if anybody knows a quality exhaust shop that can be trusted to maybe bend these pipes in thanks.

I had problems with mine at first as well, but then I finally found a position that worked. But I have to tell ya, it was a lot of trial and error. They for the most part only fit one way and it only takes a very little adjustment either by twising, pulling out, pushing inward, etc. to throw it off and get the tire rub. Stick with it, it should work. I have slightly wider tires and used the 2.5" dia's, but it worked.

thanks, thats good to know. is it just a matter of finding the right spot for the tailpipes? the rest of the system seems to fit fine.

Like they said, it's just trial and error. You should try getting the 3" pypes to line up. Once you get it, they look good, but it takes a while to get them adjusted right.

There is a lot going on down there with clearancing tires and springs. Trick is to ritate inward, if I recall correctly but not to far and make sure you check not only jacked up, but on ground. I had mine just barely clearing the springs to clear tires and I only ran 2.5's back.

Here's my Pypes cat-back laid out on the garage floor ready to go. Except for the right-hand tail pipe pointing in a different direction than the other. The muffler ends of the tail pipes are not bent at the same angle which translates into a big difference at the other end.
The installation probably would have gone badly. Summit Racing is sending another set from which I can mix-and-match to cobble a usable set together.

I cant speak for every setup out there, but the two Torque Tech systems I've had fit a lot nicer than the Pypes setup a friend of mine put on his 78 Monte.

Torque Tech has discontinued the single-cat duals. I'll give the second set of Pypes another chance this weekend.

It didn't go well. On one hand, the second set wasn't bent any better than the first. I brought the tail pipes to a local custom exhaust shop for an opinion. The proprietor thought the bending error was behind the axle and that I should go ahead with the installation and cut off the section that was pointing in the wrong direction and he would weld it back on correctly. I'm not completely on board with his assessment.
Another disappointment was the universal hangers that require holes in the frame behind the mufflers and visible clamps under the bumper. I'd prefer to have brackets welded on to reuse the factory muffler hangers and to eliminate the clamps out back.
On the other hand, it's official: I'm too old for this crap. I couldn't raise my arms overhead for a couple of days after the installation. Maybe I'll get a lift for my birthday this summer.
But it sounds great! The subtle rumble has been replaced with a snarl. My 6 AM departure for work will no longer go unnoticed. whistle

What mufflers did you go with? any final pics? I wonder if the gn style exit would fit better?
