2004 5.3/4l60e Dbw cam swap - 01/20/17 02:40 AM

I wanted to know what will be a good cam to install in my dd mc. I have a bone stock 5.3 and just want a cam swap...

The LS6 cam is a popular upgrade, along with decent intake and exhaust should run pretty strong with good idle and vacuum. Above that, you start to make tradeoffs for a DD, and only you can decide how much trade to make. Lowest cost options will be stock takeoffs, of course the aftrermarket is wide open, but here's a good writeup on some of the different ones available.

LS9 Cam or GMPP Hot Cam would also be a good choice for the 5.3. Remember you will also need the appropriate springs with whatever cam you choose

You'll lose some torque down low, based on the Hot Rod article, I'd guess 45+ ft lbs at 2500, but will gain quite a bit up top. I'd guess a good tune would be pretty close to mandatory though. You would likely need to pay attention to your converter choice, it might be critical too. Basically, it's a relatively big cam, so the typical big cam advice applies.
