Mikes Montes, GSI interiors, Kilduff Machine - 05/09/17 12:30 AM

Just want to give a thumbs up to Mike @ mikesmontes for a great quality carpet at the best price around & for being a dealer of VHX gauges. One email to Mike for the gauges & had them in just a few days. Add to that he beats every ones price also. GSI interiors, ordered covers & 3 days later UPS drops them at my door. I can't say enough about the quality & workmanship he puts into his seat covers. I ordered covers from PUI a few years ago & had no complaints, they fit well & looked good but there is no comparison GSI covers. You will pay a little more & if he doesn't have what you want in stock there is a wait time, but it is worth it. Thumbs up GSI. I ordered Kilduff lightning rods from Brian Kilduff, gave him a call & told what I wanted, asked about different colored knobs other than black & no problem. Real nice guy to deal with & these shifters are IMO, the best you can get. Dollar for dollar the lightning rod gear changer has delivered the biggest return. They are just plain.....BADASS! Thumbs up Brian

Nice pictures! What are the part numbers on those seat covers? Also, would you mind uploading a close up of your gauges? I would have to agree with you on those gear changers! It just looks sick! Nice work!

Friend has the Kilduff in his Nova and loves it. Looking right at home in that console. Just picked up a pair of Monte buckets and if I like them might recover in tan, thanks for the good word on GSI.

GSI interiors, is a one man operation & think (dont quote on this) has a full time job also. Visit his website. He had in stock what I wanted so no wait time. Last time I looked he had Black/claret covers & also all black vinyl set (very good price) Limited stock. When I took mine from the box it was obvious that he takes pride in his product & even more apparent in how well they fit. After I installed the gauges I decided to get the gear indicator (GSS2000) since I still had the 60/40 seat & column shift. A few days after that I found some bucket seats close by after searching for 2 years, so now I was able to get the covers I wanted & even better I could get the lightning rods. Looking at the gear indicator box, it has individual hook ups for lights/leds plus the connection to the gauges. Before I had the shifter in hand I decided I would look at lighting each gear position individually. I used plexiglass & cut 7 squares less than 3/4"x3/4", painted black & sanded the face the light would show through under the numbers & drilled holes for the led's. A little super glue to keep the led's in place & attach the squares under number openings & done. Used amber led's for park & neutral, Red (flashing led) for reverse & white for forward gears. White is brighter than i like at night, Ill deal with it another time. FREE for pickup to any one located in SW Washington, NW Oregon or wants to drive from ???. 60/40 seat, good upholstery. 78 - 81 monte carlo or to 87? olds 442 high back buckets. Need covers, buns will be OK. 4ea 87 M.C. SS factory mags, has tires on them with good tread but I would change due to age. Dont know how old they are but this car before i got had not been registered since 96. SS gauges, worked good. Factory radio, don't remember RPO code for it but was the top one with equalizer. I never put a cassette in, assume it works 52K car. As far as the gauges & radio I would consider shipping but they get a sale price instead of free. Sorry, the older I get if getting off the couch isn't motivated by speed, J.D. hearing my address on the scanner, well you know the rest.

How was the VHX install? I made the mistake of ordering every sensor and accessory they have so I have been letting it sit for a little over a year because I fear all the wiring nightmares of it.

Install was easy enough, most wires that you need to tie into are from the harness that plugs into the old gauges. It does take some time, should be able to get it done in 2 -3 days. Instructions are clear & there are several posts from installs on here.

Do the 3 rods on the right only work for upshifts or can you downshift as well?
Posted By: siberhusky0

Re: Mikes Montes, GSI interiors, Kilduff Machine - 05/24/17 01:19 AM

Yes, can downshift also. In 4th, all rods are down & move the 3-4 shift rod forward to shift to 3rd, 2-3 rod forward for 2nd & 1-2 rod forward for 1st.

Nice aero! I also have the Kilduff L-Rods in my aerocoupe. Love em. I do have to ask, what did the rear window cost to get tinted if you don't mind me asking? Any special way they had to do it?

Re: Mikes Montes, GSI interiors, Kilduff Machine - 05/24/17 06:36 AM

I believe it was done at factory or possibly was an option from dealers. The reason being, is I got a replacement quarter window from Mike@mikesmontes because part of the seal on the original window was torn. The window he sent was tinted & matched perfectly. The tint on all windows has a slight blue color. Someone on the forum should know either way. I need to look at the RPO codes again & see if anything for tint is there.

I agree with MikesMontes...excellent to deal with either via the website or on the phone.

There is a factory option for tint, but it's pretty light and in my experience all cars I've encountered or owned have it, soft-ray is usually labeled on the glass. Wonder how many didn't have it now that I think about it. From what it looks like in the pictures yours is fairly dark and must of been added, perhaps got lucky that a 1/4 glass matched up with it (?).

Re: Mikes Montes, GSI interiors, Kilduff Machine - 05/24/17 11:04 PM

That could be, it just seems unlikely that 2 quarter windows (first one was for the left side & needed right side) would have the same tint as whats installed in the car if it was done by an owner or by a business tinting windows, but is possible. I haven't seen this shade before with a hint of blue in the color & if I could find a match would replace the tint on door windows due to scratches. Initially I thought that it was added at some point also. Putting tint on the rear window with it installed couldn't be any fun. I'll send a email to Mike@mikesmontes & see if knows anything.

Got a email back from Mike & said that some cars were tinted from the factory. The pictures do make it look a little darker than they are.

Re: Mikes Montes, GSI interiors, Kilduff Machine - 05/26/17 07:06 PM

I was under the impression that all SS cars after 84(?) had the factory tint. I don't remember the percentage or whatever but it was barely considered tint. Out of the 3 SS's I have had all of them have had the factory tint on the quarter windows and rear but not the door glass. I have 2 87 aerocoupe windows and neither of them have tint of any kind.
